A far distance down.
I used to support Capital Punishment.

I now support it in NO circumstances.

There is no need to discuss/ debate capital punishment, here.

Just wondering if anyone else has flip/flopped ?

Yeah, I used to hate Republicans, until I found out I was one....but I still hate some Republicans...

Two things I will NEVER flip-flop:
Capital punishment is wrong
Abortion is wrong

I used to be completely anti-abortion, but I have changed my views on abortion (somewhat). I do believe abortion should be legal, but I still have serious misgivings about some of the ethical implications.

But, yes, I have flip-flopped.

I used to sort of be a republican, now I'm liberal. I changed my ideas about a lot of things. This mostly just had to do with me figuring things out for myself as i became an adult and thinking about why i believed what i believed. When I was a republican it was because my parents were and I basically just believed what they believed for the most part. Towards the end of high school i started learning more about govt and politics and my ideas on things started to change, they changed even more when i got to college. I'm only a junior in college, so it's still an ongoing process, but i think I'm pretty set in my beliefs now, at least for a while.

Two years ago I would not have supported homosexual marriage.

This is the one issue, that FYM and disussions outside of FYM have completely caused me to turn around on.

I've definitely has shifts in opinions over time (I relate flip/flops with changing positions for political expediency) and FYM has been a source for some changes.

My biggest change - I use to think Christianity was a bunch of baloney. Now, I know Jesus Christ is God.

I'm similar to deep.

I used to support capital punishment in some cases when I was young, because I had a friend whose mother got blown up while she was waiting in the bread line. I thought the person(s) responsible should be put to death.

I changed my mind later, because of what they taught me about forgiveness and also because I cannot ever conceive of myself pulling the plug. So, if I can't do it, I don't think I have a right to ask another person to do it on my behalf.

I believe this is the goal when it is used by campaigns against an opponent.

This would fit your description.

If a politician was pro gun control and then was redistricted into an area where the NRA could sway the election and then became a 2nd amendment avocate.

Flip-flop, I am not sure, I would say that I became politicized and my views came into focus as I went through university.

One thing I have flip flopped is on christianity (the evangelical/fundamentalist brand). I used to feel oppressed by a serious amount of guilt and expectations. "But I must be an acrobat, to talk like this and act like that..." I have found my own way out.

It seems to me that the ability to change your mind when situations change is a good thing.

It is. Situations change, life changes. I used to be a lukewarm deist. I have since converted to Catholicism. That's a big time change.

I used to be very conservative -- vp of Young Republicans in high school, then president of College Republicans -- until I worked on Capitol Hill. So I've flip-flopped on about every issue in the past three years. :shifty:

I completely agree.

wow... cool topic
i've flip/flopped as you say on many things...
i used to be a HP only person, but now i only buy sony stuff.
no, but seriously, pretty much all my views have changed in the past year or so. i used to be totally anti-abortion now of course, pro-life. i used to be a devout christian... go to church all that stuff... now i refuse to set my foot inside a place of worship.
i used to be a moderate and now, that i'm more informed, i am undeniably liberal. actually i'm really not either. i'm actually a socialist.
oh well, flip/flopping is healthy

Not really. I take a long time to form an opinion on something, but once I do, that's usually it. I will say, 10 years ago I probably would have been kind of shocked by gay marriage but now I really don't care who gets married. Like John Lennon said to Brian Epstein, there is too much hate in this world, any love is better than that! As I said in the other thread too, being a reject in my family because I do not live up to their standards financially and socially made me really feel sorry for gays not being accepted for who they are:(

Yeah. I use to have no interest whatsoever in stars or famem even resented them both. Now I want to be famous and I like a star!!!

I've always seen the choice to "change your mind" as a base part of being human.
