Foreign policy debate tonight on CBS, should be interesting. Hopefully Cain's many stumbles in this area (which there almost certainly will be) will take him out the of the race for good. I swear, if he brings up 9-9-9 one more time...

I expect it to be a Romney & Gingrich show. A poll a few days ago asked which candidate they trusted most on foreign policy and the military. Romney got 26% with Newt at 21%. Should be a good battle.

Mr. Romney’s polls seem to be bending down a bit. Over the past week or two, we’ve seen a larger number of polls, both at the state and national level, that show him below rather than above 20 percent; the trend line from our graph, in fact, now has him at only about 18 percent overall. Considering that other Republicans have had their problems during this time period, I would call this trend at least mildly worrying for Mr. Romney’s campaign. I certainly consider Mr. Romney the clear favorite to win the Republican nomination, but these numbers do not exactly suggest that there is anything inevitable about it.

If Mr. Romney and Mr. Cain are on a somewhat downward trajectory, you’d expect to see another candidate gaining ground. And that candidate is, indeed, Newt Gingrich. He’s polling in the mid- to high teens in most recent surveys, with occasional forays into the 20s. Also, for whatever reason, his state-by-state polls have generally been better than his national polls, so if anything the national surveys may somewhat understate his momentum. This method now shows him at about 18 or 19 percent of the vote, meaning that he’s roughly tied with Mitt Romney.

But the biggest piece of news here is Mr. Gingrich and his rise in the polls: he, Mr. Romney and Mr. Cain may now be in a rough three-way tie for the Republican polling lead. Polls certainly aren’t everything in a presidential primary, and for reasons I outlined earlier this week, Mr. Gingrich might have trouble maintaining his momentum as his campaign begins to receive more scrutiny. Still, it looks as if he’s going to enjoy his moment in the sun.

I'm not too good with math, but this shit is crazy. Here are their hopefuls for the "It takes a Carter to get a Reagan" 2012 contest, in order of 15 minutes of desperation:

Palin, Trump, Bachmann, Perry, Christie, Palin (again), Cain, Newt

Everyone of the above listed has some serious issues or baggage, or isn't running.

Palin - former half term gov of Alaska, couldn't finish her term, dumb as shit
Trump - horrible comb-over, not running
Bachmann - married to a crazy closet case
Perry - makes Palin look smart
Christie - not running, he's bigger than the goodyear blimp, could explode at any moment!
Cain - 9-9-9, sex-sex-sex, princess Nancy
Newt - smart guy but more baggage in his personal life than a 737

Sooner or later the batshit teabaggers are going to have to realize that Mitt Romney, despite his flip flopping, is their best bet to beat Obama. The rest of the field is either batshit crazy (which is fine with the TP) or too stupid to know their hole from an ass in the ground.

It will be funny to see them rally around a guy who's not the traditional Christain Conservative type, since religion is such a big thing with them. But hey, its better than a commie muslim jew-hating terrorist sympathizing marxist socialist radical left wing extremist, right? Poor Jesus.

His candidacy’s now basically an experiment to see if there’s anything he could say about policy that grassroots conservatives wouldn’t ignore/forgive in the name of nominating a candidate who’s “authentic” instead of some slick RINO Beltway insider phony. Is there anything? Or can any screw-up be dismissed so long as it’s “clarified” a few hours later, knowing full well that undecideds won’t be as forgiving if he pulls something like this in a debate against Obama? How steep is the authenticity grading curve here, exactly?

Was just about to post this and saw that you did. It's unbelievable and embarrassing as an American that a guy like this is/was the front runner for the GOP. It says a lot about the intelligence of voters. It makes me wish that voting should be a privilege, not a right.

On Fox News’ Hannity program last night, Texas Gov. Rick Perry explained his newest attack ad against President Obama, which falsely accuses the President of saying that “Americans are lazy.”

Perry told host Sean Hannity that he thought the President’s remark “reveals to me that he grew up in a privileged way,” and that “he never had to really work for anything.”

As I reported yesterday, Perry released a new ad entitled “Lazy,” which seeks to make hay out of a comment the President made about American efforts to promote US commerce globally, but which Perry morphs into an attack on average Americans. Speaking at the APEC summit in Hawaii this past weekend, the President said, “there are a lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity — our stability, our openness, our innovative free market culture.”

“But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades,” he continued. “We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America.”

In his ad, Perry clipped the “lazy” remark out of context, and said, “”Can you believe that? That’s what our President thinks is wrong with America? That Americans are lazy?”

Now, it seems that Perry is trying to say that President Obama is the lazy one.

Hannity asked Perry, “What does it (the President’s remark) reveal to you about his mind set and thinking?”

“It reveals to me that he grew up in a privileged way,” Perry said. “He never had to really work for anything. He never had to go through what Americans are going through. There’s 14-plus million americans sitting out there, some of them watching this program tonight, that don’t have a job. This president has never felt that angst.”

There are a lot of ways to describe Barack Obama’s upbringing, but “privileged” certainly isn’t one of them. The son of a single mother who, at times, depended on food stamps for subsistence, Obama can barely claim birth to a plastic spoon existence, let alone a silver one. While people like Perry might not respect Obama’s work as a community organizer, it hardly puts a Monopoly Guy monocle on him.

Given his slide in the polls and disastrous performance against his Republican rivals during the debates thus far, it’s no wonder that Perry would rather pick fights with people he’s not running against yet. If he wants to beat up on President Obama, though, he needs something better than this.

The unfortunate thing about that is that there's actually a good point in what he was saying, or at least trying to say. It's a ridiculous expectation to think a president should know the name of the leader of every country offhand, or even close to it. The fact is that most presidents simply don't need to know hardly anything important about a lot of countries unless a scenario arises where they need to. I think most Americans would agree with him on that.

However, his "Uz-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan," his cluelessness on Libya and the fact that every foreign policy response comes back to 9-9-9 makes him look awful.

I was just laughing because he's supposed to be ready for the "gotcha" questions and two seconds after that he wasn't. It's an "unconventional campaign" but that excuse won't work anymore. Romney is looking better. Also the comment on "insignificant countries" was cringe inducing.

Cain expressed his concern during an appearance at the Holy Land Experience, a Biblically-themed amusement park in Orlando, telling the audience that a surgeon who had once treated him for cancer was named "Dr. Abdallah."

"I said to his physician assistant, I said, 'That sounds foreign, not that I had anything against foreign doctors, but it sounded too foreign," said Cain to the audience, according to Yahoo! News. "She said, 'He's from Lebanon.' Oh, Lebanon! My mind immediately started thinking, wait a minute, maybe his religious persuasion is different than mine! She could see the look on my face and she said, 'Don't worry, Mr. Cain, he's a Christian from Lebanon."
