i think as you get older you get a reason to care.

5 years ago, i was all about the Food network. now, it's HGTV.

i also now know much more about financial planning than 5 years ago when i didn't have any money.

the kids are all right.

I actually agree with you on this one INDY, we need more people to think outside the box. But only including a small portion of the population is not the way to do so...

I think as you get older and accumulate the trappings of a life (having your shit together, finally), you intrinsically want to protect that. So thinking more about politics is natural as we age. We want to feel secure.

I also think that's why it seems conservatives skew old, as well. You have your morals and values set, you're probably unwilling to see them compromised, and you want to protect what you've created as far as wealth and possessions. Change is a threat.

What is the 4th of July if not a celebration of original political ideas?

My point is not that we should discourage originality. My point is that originality alone means nothing. It doesn't automatically make someone valid. Just because Newt has an original idea doesn't mean shit if the idea blows.

Huckabee Opts Against 2012 White House Bid - FoxNews.com

Huck makes more room for Palin.

i'm just saying.

Huck knows what's up -- there's money to be made as a pundit, not as president.

I'm very glad that Mike Huckabee decided not to run.
This way he gets to remain decent and honest and an all-around good guy.

Why do you think he's decent and honest?

He's been caught lying several times.

He lied ( on multiple occasions) about Obama growing up in Kenya and then lied when telling his cover up story.

He's lied about the healthcare plan on several occasions.

He's now selling history lessons claiming to be bias free yet they drip with racism and bias.

He's a hypocrite and liar. Fox won't show you that, but it's pretty easy to see...

He's only interested in Israel because he thinks the end of the world and return of Christ are going to kick off in your backyard. He is not interested in peace or your well being, but the opposite. He wants it to all go south as fast as possible. He wants war and death in Israel. Bring on the apocalypse! So as far as peace and prosperity for Israel go, he is your worst possible/nightmare candidate.

He didn't lie about that - he explained that he mis-spoke and that he never claimed that Obama grew up in Kenya rather that he was born in Hawaii and raised in Indonesia, and the radio interview he gave in which he made this verbal gaffe was one of many he did that day which would result in a natural distortion and mistake - for which he took full responsibility.

Case in point, How many people (mostly newscasters) mixed up "Obama" and "Osama" when Bin laden was killed? No one accused them of wanting Obama dead, right? It was an honest mistake.

He's lied about the healthcare plan on several occasions.

I don't know, THIS kind of makes sense to me:

He's now selling history lessons claiming to be bias free yet they drip with racism and bias.

Can you find me an example? I'd like to know more about this.

Well, so far it's not easy for ME to see. When I watch him on FOX he's always to the point and doesn't dodge any tough questions (that I've seen).

If I'm wrong, I would appreciate if you could show me some examples to the contrary.

Hi Earnie,

I didn't want to mention his pro-Israel stance because I didn't want it to seem like it was clouding my judgement of him (which it isn't).

Do you have any facts to back up your statements? I haven't seen any duplicitous(sp?) behavior on his part. All I've seen is a really kind person who speaks his mind and seems to really look out for Israel - just like Glenn Beck.

If I'm wrong, show me....

He did it very purposefully. He did it several times and then even lied when making his "apology" he made some reference to his book saying that he admitted Obama wasn't born in Kenya, but that's not in his book. He's full of deception.

It's full of distortion. For example his example of the 70 year old hip replacement, that happens now under the current system. Private insurance make these decisions on a daily basis. He's just trying to scare you into thinking that's something new that's going to happen under Obamacare.

He's scary because he seems so pleasant and reasonable when he speaks. You just want to pull up a chair and have a nice discussion with him.

And then you actually hear the words coming out of his mouth, and you realize he's just another one of the crazypants guys.

MSNBC, May 14
Republican Newt Gingrich told a Georgia audience on Friday evening that the 2012 presidential election is the most consequential since the 1860 race that elected Abraham Lincoln to the White House and was soon followed by the Civil War. Addressing the Georgia Republican Party's convention, Gingrich said the nation is at a crossroads and that the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama would lead to four more years of "radical left-wing values" that would drive the nation to ruin.
Washington Post, May 13
"We’re at the crossroads,” Gingrich said, repeatedly sniffling from allergies. “Down one road is a European centralized bureaucratic socialist welfare system in which politicians and bureaucrats define the future. Down the other road is a proud, solid, reaffirmation of American exceptionalism.”

...Gingrich sought to lay blame for the recession, as well as the economic and social upheaval in Detroit, on Obama and his policies. “President Obama is the most successful food stamp president in American history,” Gingrich said. “I would like to be the most successful paycheck president in American history.”
C-SPAN - Newt Gingrich: Remarks to GA Republican Convention, May 13 2011
“You know, folks often talk about immigration. I always say that to become an American citizen, immigrants ought to have to learn American history. But maybe we should also have a voting standard that says to vote, as a native born American, you should have to learn American history. You realize how many of our high school graduates because of the decay of the educational system, couldn’t pass a citizenship test.”

Yeah...no dog whistles there.

And so Gingrich will froth up the right-wing base, but ultimately won't get anywhere since even Republicans acknowledge he's an egotistical, petty ass.
