It really, truly shocks me that this birth certificate nonsense still has legs. . .

How can there be so many people in this country that actually buy this?

It makes me embarrassed to me an American. . .

I don't get what's bad about it. We've seen plenty worse depictions of Bush the past 8 years, so I don't want to hear anyone say making fun of someone this way crosses a line...

It's probably racist, though, in some way. :cute:

I think some might find a reversal "black face" quality about it, but I'm not saying that's right or wrong...

I think the "socialist" label, is just like you said just as bad as those fringe few that painted Bush a "fascist", the difference is; it's not as fringe anymore.

i just think it's thematically incoherent.

what are the similarities between the Joker in The Dark Knight, and Obama?

like, one is a psychopathic murderer who wants to unleash anarchy and chaos, and the other is criticized for being too cool, too clam, too hyper-rational, too emotionless, too precise and calculating.

an Obama/Spock comparison, say, i could understand. or even less savory characters.

but it seems like this is a graphically compelling poster with absolutely no thought given beyond it's shock value. it's not that it's empty of thought, it's that it's simply inaccurate.

and, yes, i've seen far worse done with Bush, so this really isn't about whining that someone's being mean to Obama.

It's not what he represented on the campaign trail.

Also, I do find it offensive when artists do unflattering or creepy 'caricatures' of any sitting POTUS.

When you say something like that, you should probably want to back it up. What did he say on the campaign trail that he did not do/put into action?

Obama is a very moderate president, and he is doing exactly what he said he was going to do on the campaign trail?

Geez, are you guys living in caves or listening to one news source only?

He said we'd be out of Iraq, we're not.
He said he'd shut down Gitmo-he hasn't.
He said we'd fight the War on Terror much differently we're not.
He said that he would only raise taxes on 5% of the US population, now that's changing-the middle class are about to have their taxes raised, per Tim Geitner.
He said many things that haven't gotten done, and some may see him as a as fooling the American ppl.

I thought the Fox argument was that he was moving to fast on Iraq? And I thought one of the very first things he did was begin the process to shut Gitmo? And I think things like shutting down your torture arm count as changing the way you're fighting the War on Terror (and I believe he's also retired that ridiculous name as well) + smarter engagement in Afghanistan/Pakistan etc + smarter approach to Israel/Palestine + smarter engagement with the Islamic world as a whole. All count.

Taxes, I have no idea about. Good luck to you all, but I don't live in the US, so... don't really care about that one.

And Bush said he wasn't about nation building...

Hey, look at what Vanity Fair did just over a year ago.

I can't believe people still say this. God, I would hate to see what a liberal president looks like, then.

Ok, if you really believe this than you haven't been around the world much. Obama believes in capitalism and the free market, nor is he doing anything that would change capitalism. Bailing out auto companies/ banks, which was started by Bush anyways, is simply to stop the economy from collapsing on itself. Health care is needed and he is not even planning "socialized" medicine. Even the rich who will have their taxes raised will still be paying less than they were under Clinton or REAGAN! How is this socialistic? How is this not moderate?? The way he has been acting has been very cautious and centrist! You want to see a "liberal" president- go to europe. Obama is extremely moderate when you put things in perspective, he is no more liberal than Bill Clinton. and btw, socialism would NEVER work in America, but it works pretty great in europe. And people in europe are FREE, Socialism and freedom are not opposites and are perfectly compatible, unfortunately Rush would not want you to believe this. If Rush lived in Europe for 2 years, then lived in poverty stricken africa for 1 year, then lived as an average middle class american for 1 year.... I guarantee he would be a liberal. Well...maybe not because the man has no common sense or logic. :|

You see Barack Obama's totally real Kenyan birth certificate that is not photoshopped and completely believable unlike those phony Hawaiian documents? I mean, if there's one country that you know won't scam you, it's Kenya!

Yet some people persist in casting suspicious glances at the document. User CatM in the comments:

First, the hospital is Coast Provincial General Hospital (sometimes said to be Coast Province General Hospital), not Coast General Hospital.

Second, Kenya was a Dominion the date this certificate was allegedly issued and would not become a republic for 8 months.

Third, Mombasa belonged to Zanzibar when Obama was born, not Kenya.

Fourth, Obama's father's village would be nearer to Nairobi, not Mombasa.

Fifth, the number 47O44-- 47 is Obama's age when he became president, followed by the letter O (not a zero) followed by 44--he is the 44th president.

Sixth, EF Lavender is a laundry detergent.

Seventh, would a nation with a large number of Muslims actually say "Christian name" (as opposed to name) on the birth certificate?

Eigth, his father (born in 1961) would have been 24 or 25 when he was born and not 26.

Ninth, it was called the "Central Nyanza District," not Nyanza Province. The regions were changed to provinces in 1970.

Old Redneck in a recommended diary (omitting duplicates from above):

2. The document is dated 5 August 1964 -- a Saturday. From what I can find, Kenyan guvmint offices close early on Friday and are closed on Saturdays. Oooops [...]

5. This piece of paper certainly looks nice and new to be 45 years old -- unless the Kenyans were using acid-free paper back in 1964. Heh, heh.

6. Finally, Officials of Coast Province General Hospital reported: “We do not have computerized records going back to the 1960’s and can only sort through our archives by hand,” Dr. Christopher Mwanga, an administrator at the Mombasa hospital tells GLOBE. “We have searched for all the names of babies born on Aug. 4, 1961, and have not found the name of Barack Hussein Obama. That is all I can tell you.”

Dr. Mwanga is clearly in on the scam.

In all seriousness, some of these bullet points may turn out to be misfires. But the totality of the evidence -- gathered lightning fast, I may add -- suggests that this is a forgery. And not just any forgery, but one good enough to take in the idiot birthers, while poor enough to let everyone else in on the joke.

In other words, the Birthers just got played, in a hilariously overt way.

I think this woman is mentally ill.

Deeply embarrassing.

I thought the Fox argument was that he was moving to fast on Iraq?

Actually, Obama has adopted Bush administration policy on Iraq. The current policy is a conditions based withdrawal agreed to with the Iraqi government in the summer of 2008. Obama by contrast before being elected wanted to pull US troops out of Iraq as soon as possible with no regard to consequences or based on having met any conditions. In January of 2007, he called for the withdrawal of ALL US combat brigades by March 31, 2008. But since becoming President, he has signed on to the policy he opposed. Under current plans, there will still be US brigades in Iraq in 2011.

smarter engagement in Afghanistan/Pakistan etc

What precisely is Obama doing here that is different from the policy and plans prior to January 20, 2009.

Lets not forget that despite all of Obama's criticisms of the Bush administration, he decided to hold on to Bush's Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates. Thats actually a big endorsement when you think about it. When was the last time a different political party took power in the White House and kept the previous administrations Secretary Of Defense on the job?
