I sure hope NYS/NYC will do serious monitoring, and preventing people from coming here, or monitoring their quarantining. We suffered badly. We have to do the best we can to protect ourselves after all the suffering, deaths, sacrifices, that have happened here.

i know we've all been (rightly) pissing on the USA for it's poor leadership creating an unnecessary crisis. but there are other countries dealing with spikes right now, which makes me pessimistic globally, especially as we've hit the summer midpoint and Europe will once again go back indoors in the fall.

countries to watch: Israel, Australia, Croatia, Japan, India, South Africa.

and then there's Brazil.

long story short: it's going to come back around until we have a vaccine.

Other countries are seeing surges and i think that’s expected. Some of it due to nature of a virus and maybe some of those countries have relaxed a little too fast.

Difference is they actually controlled it once. We didn’t and still are doing it half assed.

I also feel a lot of people are resting on a vaccine being a guarantee. If one does come out i think it’ll be half effective at best.

That’s better than nothing but how will it be spun ? A large percentage of people won’t wear a mask, will they take a vaccine that may not work? What will the anti-vaxxers be able to pull off ? If 30% of population takes a shot that’s 50% effective I’m not sure it pushes us far enough ahead of things.

I think you're way too pessimistic on the potential of a functional vaccine.

My optimist on this subject is the only thing keeping actual depression at bay for the time being.

But I’m already worried that life as we knew it is gone, vaccine or not.

Yea I mean... there's so much unknown. And I get the pessimism, I really do. And god knows I've had some very dark nights since this whole thing began.

What I keep coming back to is what happened after the 1918 pandemic... the roaring 20s. I also see our stupidity in dealing with this issue now as, in a fucked up way, a positive for how we'll recover... people are desperate to get back to "normal."

It all obviously depends on the vaccine - and for now all the news that's coming out is positive on that front. We had our first candidate enter the final stages of testing just the other day - so that has me very optimistic that we're going to have a good 2021.

And yes, I know what came after the 20s.

There's a lot left to figure out... but if we enter 2021 with a working vaccine and the stain of Trump removed? Things can really take off.

New York was never going to recover after 9/11. Nobody would want to live or work in a highrise again.

This was immediately followed by the biggest period of economic growth and building boom in NYC since they built the Empire State Building.

I'd prefer not to think about where we'll be if the vaccine fails and trump wins. But I'm still overly optimistic about what the post pandemic, post trump America will look like

GA Governor Kemp is voiding all mask mandates that were passed by cities / counties.

GA has seen its cases and deaths rise over the last few weeks.

I don’t think you could handle this worse than what we have done.

Models are predicting 224,000 deaths by November 1st.

That number goes up to 240,000 if we don’t get our mask and social distance game solidified.

Kemp has come across as the worst "leader" during this pandemic, even worse than Trump, hard as it may be to believe. dates all the way back to his astonishment regarding asymptomatic spread 6 weeks after it was widely reported.
