Good luck to everyone in your various apts

Dave C Having a friend who ended up "rescuing" a older kitten some years back and regaling me with tales good and bad of life with him - I really now get your cats annoyance at not being "left alone for 9+ hrs".

anitram Sorry to hear your friends downtown are extra stressed.

lm An orange tree?!
Mucho decades ago when my mom was living in California with roommates they had a few trees, maybe an orange tree, but definitely an avocado tree!

Yes, an orange tree! When those blossoms pop up in the early spring, it's the greatest scent in the world. Instantly brightens my mood. Orange trees are all over the place here and there's a pomegranate tree near by apartment too. No avocados though.

i bought a pair of binoculars last fall and as the birds are coming out i'm very happy that i purchased those.

there's a big fat cardinal lording over the top branches of the tree in my apartment window. i think the swallows are gathering their numbers down below to fight back.

LOL, yeah, it may well be for me soon, too. I usually get my hair cut once the weather starts getting warmer, because it's long and thick and that's not always the most comfortable thing to deal with in warmer weather (it actually hasn't been all that warm here lately, mind, but eventually it will be). But now...I may have to deal with the lion's mane look for a while longer.

LM Sounds lovely to have the scent of flowering orange blossoms trees wafting about! My mom was eating pomogrenats years before they became popular! Such a beautiful looking fruit outside (the color) and the amazing set up of ruby like gel around the multitude of seeds.

Dave C I love Cardinals! I learned to recognize their call so I'd hear then often see them in parks, or in my neighborhood.
Most interesting was when in our family apartment, out the back window with the fire escape (my veranda) over looked the apt buildings below, as the back of our building was built up on a steep hill - the big balcony was surrounded by trees on 3 sides. One Spring (w help from small binoculars )I watched a pair of crows flying with branches in their beaks for building their nest. Wildlife in NYC.

Here’s a little bit of cool/good news: so I realized that I had a box of N95 particulate masks in my shop at work that I’d only ever used one of, so we called a couple local hospitals to see if they could use them. Both said that they could only take unopened boxes. One of my wife’s colleagues knows a neurosurgeon who was apparently desperate to find masks for emergency surgeries, and would be willing to take opened boxes, since they simply couldn’t find anything in stock in town.

So my wife drove over to their house to drop them off to his wife, who mentions that, though her husband is a neurosurgeon, the emergency procedures he needs the masks for are stage 4 colon cancer surgeries.

My wife’s dad died when she was 10 from colon cancer, and her older brother got it when he was 26 (and fully recovered). It was a really special bit of synchronicity/grace for her. Obviously we’d be happy if those masks went to help anyone needing surgery, but for it to be that closely connected to her family history was pretty powerful for my wife.

It's fun to see guys here talking about hair. Sorry about fun, don't know the right word. My last appointment was March 5th. I just started going to this new salon a few months ago, 15 minute walk down the street. The owner works there by herself and wasn't having luck renting out chairs. She and her husband and kids did most of the renovations, the place is beautiful. I really hope she can survive this shutdown.

I was going there for cut and color, the price was so reasonable and she's so talented. My last day in March appointment was cancelled, I wasn't going anyway in order to be responsible. Governor shut down non essential businesses yesterday until May 4th and I know it will go well beyond that. I've been hiding it under my winter hats when I go out for walks, and other hats if it's warmer. I order groceries and other essentials. I have one prescription that can't be delivered so that's my only essential trip.

Obviously it's completely trivial and unimportant. But I'm seriously considering a wig at this point.I had to grow out my layers to do what I want to do with it, so at least that is mission accomplished.

And major victory for me today, Wal-Mart shipped my 36 rolls of toilet paper Fed Ex arrives tomorrow. I've had multiple orders of toilet paper cancelled. I ordered some more from another site to help out my brother or any neighbors or anyone else needing some, If that order comes through.

From what I've heard you have to be at stores first thing in the morning to get toilet paper, and stores have reserved those hours for seniors and immune compromised. Never thought it would be impossible to get toilet paper in this country, certainly is one lesson among countless others regarding how many things we take for granted.

That's a very special story, and not a coincidence in my world view. The universe works in magical ways sometimes.

Is Andrew Cuomo still trying to cut Medicaid funding in New York by $400 million during a pandemic that is particularly threatening to those who can't afford health care? Genuine question, a lot is happening and perhaps he has changed his tune.

Also, what is the status of inmates on Rikers Island?

This is fascinating, I hope it will turn out to be promising.

Celtics' Marcus Smart donating blood for experimental coronavirus treatment

ESPN
10:42 PM

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart, who announced Monday that he is clear of COVID-19 after testing positive two weeks ago, confirmed Tuesday night that he plans to donate blood so it can be studied with the hope of finding a treatment for the coronavirus.

Michael Joyner, an anesthesiologist at the Mayo Clinic, told ABC News that at least four NBA players who have recovered from the infection plan to donate blood for the National COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Project, an experimental treatment that could help high-risk patients recover from the virus.

Smart confirmed through his agent that he is one of the players who opted in. The identities of the three other players were not revealed.

The NBA league office reached out to team physicians Sunday, encouraging players who have recovered from the virus to consider participating in the experimental treatment, according to a copy of the memo obtained by ABC News.

Joyner said Tuesday that he believes the experimental treatment "can be disease-modifying and reduce duration and severity in some patients." The therapy utilizes the antibodies in blood from recovered patients to potentially curb the virus in sick patients.

Joyner said professional athletes could be especially valuable plasma donors.

"These are big men with blood volumes, and as a result [they] have a lot of plasma volume," Joyner said. "Frequently people who are physically trained also have an increase in their plasma volume from what you would expect from them just being regular-sized guys."

I think that’s great.

I’m envious of people who are allowed to donate blood.

My husband was starting to resemble sasquatch so I took clippers and buzzed down his hair. 2 on the sides and 3 on top and so he has to live like a military recruit for a few weeks. He was super happy about it.

My 4-year-old has a bit of a hipster haircut and I don't want to ruin it but he is getting super shaggy.

Speechless, these people who refuse to believe in science and behave accordingly are so very dangerous. No balls? No brains for you and your ilk you fool.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Pittsburgh area pastor says he plans to organize an outdoor “Woodstock”-like Easter service to protest the stay-at-home orders to prevent coronavirus.

Conservative Christian pastor Jonathan Shuttlesworth made the announcement on social media Tuesday.

“I’m gonna announce it. We’re gonna hold an outdoor Easter blowout service. Not online. A national gathering. You come from all over, like Woodstock. And we’re gonna gather and lift up Jesus Christ,” Shuttlesworth says.

His announcement comes following the arrests of several pastors in the U.S. for violating the stay-at-home orders.

Shuttlesworth is a televangelist who co-founded Revival Today TV, and is based in Washington County.

This isn’t the first time Shuttlesworth has made headlines.

Earlier this month he called out European churches that are taking measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“Shame on every European full gospel church, bunch of sissies, that shut down during this thing,” Shuttlesworth said. “If you’re putting out pamphlets and telling everybody to use Purell before they come into the sanctuary and don’t greet anyone, you should just turn in your ministry credentials and burn your church down — turn it into a casino or something,” he said on social media. “You’re a loser. Bunch of pansies. No balls. Got neutered somewhere along the line and don’t even realize it.”

The pastor also claims that coronavirus prevention is the work of the devil.

“Let me tell you if the devil doesn’t want there to be mass gatherings — it’s time to hold mass gatherings. If I lived in Italy I would call an open-air crusade to pray for the sick. If you have to go to jail, go to jail.”

This is the hospital that saved me a year and a half ago. An infuriating story and very indicative of what the healthcare system will always be as long as profit is involved.

Philadelphia's peak hospital needs likely are 4-6 weeks in the future.

Here's hoping if this "service" takes place, the National Guard corrals all the attendees and quarantines them all together in a warehouse for at least 14 days, and if any of them get sick, well God can certainly take care of them while they are quarantined. Can't spare any medical professionals on them who will be up to their asses in alligators by Easter..

Idiot governor of FL issued a stay at home order that does not include religious services. Trump got all flustered at the press conference when asked about that.

Trump refuses to criticize the guy. Must be major sucking up going on there.

Grateful I don't have that fool for a governor.
