I fear that this will sink Trump for being an incompetent boob but ultimately make right wing nationalism more popular.

Look I am not a trump fan- at all - which pisses off some of my Republican friends; I supported Kasich in 2016 - I would have loved to see a Kasich- Rubio Ticket.

Trump is getting good poll numbers over has handling of the crisis so far- ABC poll says 55% of the country says he is doing a good job in handling the crisis another one I saw says 53%.

That being said we will see how it goes if this continues for months and not weeks. I don't know if it will spark right wing nationalism, but I think it will spark both left and right wing agreement we cannot continue to out source our critical national industries and supply chains out side North America.

We need to treat anti virals, antibiotics, medical supplies as national security issues, we need to pump money into and support companies to manufacturing them in the US.

We need to be fully energy independent,.

We need to make all components vital to national defense in the US. Sometimes we need to ignore the fact that it's cheaper to buy outside the US. We need to take a hard look at pandemic and bio warfare preparedness. BIO warfare is not just about another country it is also about nature, viruses and bacteria that produce naturally.

We need to start world war V against Viruses-- HIV should be cured by now, rabies still kills 50,000 people a year world wide--why-- we don't give a fuck because it effects mostly the third world.

We need to like at regulating the Airlines again as apart of a true organized national transportation plan.

We need to have a real transportation infrastructure that includes high speed rail.

We need our companies to move back to a centralized supply chain, actually stock warehouses and drop that heresy of JIT supply. It works when everything is roses. But hell even I can sail on a calm ocean and I am from the Midwest.

To do those things we have to rebuild our industrial base- and do it cleanly-
We need more Nuke power as well, as wind and solar. But until then we need to use american oil as we transition to a new energy base--it's national security!!!

I think we do need a "Nationalism" but not from the point that America is better than everybody else, but to make America better (no not MAGA), take care of our people, and make us resilient enough to weather global disasters. Because this isn't the last time this is happening and the chaos it through us in was completely unacceptable;e and avoidable.

I guess its appropriate that NYC has a section called Little Italy, cause New York State : USA = Italy : Europe
Stunning that NY has over 10x as many cases as California considering population, demographics and timeline of when it first showed up.

California may be more populated, but New York metro is considerably more dense. Also much more reliant upon mass transit.

I can’t think of anywhere in the US that operates so compact like New York. That’s probably why.

Right, I get that being a major factor, plus lots of international flights arriving in the 3 area airports. But the numbers are staggering, and only going to get worse.

Globalism will take a massive hit - this much is obvious. Intercontinental travel will also take a hit as a bunker mentality sets in.

Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19 - saw that Headache had posted it already. Like him, no comment.

I probably shouldn’t say this, because I’m assuming I’ll be wrong, but it’s because of New York Thst I don’t see worse case scenarios playing out. New York, and maybe SF and a few other cities aside, life in the US (and Canada and Australia) is much more spread out and car-based than life in Europe. We aren’t as tight knit. And spring is coming.

I think all these things work in our favor.

It will be bad in NYC — very glad I left when I did — but I can’t see it being as intense as it’s been in Europe.

I really hope I’m right. But cake owl she that I may not be.

There are many factors in terms of climate, geography and lifestyle that give California a leg up on NYC. Obviously, the heat is going to be welcome when it comes. Despite our enormous population, we inhabit a space that's 100,000 sq km larger than Italy with 25 million fewer people. We all drive cars and aren't especially reliant on public transportation. We have the 6th youngest population in the country. We're the 5th largest economy on earth with strong, self-sufficient supply lines in terms of produce and dairy, so at least some food is always coming in.

Most importantly, our state government isn't afraid to steal ideas that work from "socialist" countries and never pretended the virus wasn't a huge deal. San Francisco was on it a month ago while the rest of the country scratched their heads. If we were testing more, I would feel very good about where things are at, but at least we're adopting the South Korean model of drive thru testing stations.

Cuomo is a leader- I have really gained a lot of respect for him during this crisis-

If the dems were smart they would nominate him by acclimation at the convention.

Working from home for the last week, I've been able to listen to the news in live time, including the NY governor's pressers.

Your take here has definitely come to mind. For someone like me who's not had a reason to follow NY state politics, Cuomo comes across so strong in this moment. With some charm and humor mixed in there.

It's so great that you can actually find a picture of Trump as an owl via Google. The possibilities are probably endless-stuck at home activity.

I was thrilled I could actually get milk in my Instacart order this morning. It goes without saying that the store she shopped at had no toilet paper. I ordered some from Walmart, even though it's against my ethics to shop there. Doubt I will even receive it.

I have a roll of tp with Trump's picture on it. If that ends up being my last option, well let's just say I'd be happy to do it.

Harvey Weinstein and Rand Paul test positive in the same day.

just found out my aunt in Argentina is in critical condition and in intensive care in Argentina from a sudden pneumonia. They are testing her for COVID19 but only one hospital in all of Argentina is testing for COVID19 so they may not find out for many days. She was otherwise healthy except for fighting some depression because her sister passed away of lung cancer a month ago. I’m praying she pulls through this but it was so sudden! Yesterday although she was sick, she was still doing well.

Sending well wishes and good thoughts to your aunt. I hope she'll be okay .

Think I heard a few hospitals are having shortages.

Mayor DeB just had press conference about 2 hours ago, and said they're going to try, and manufacture needed medical equipment here in the city.

I like these things that simplify it so well and make it clear why it can work

Perhaps one caught it from the other?

And during these difficult times its good to see our collective sense of humor is in tact here. Thanks to Irvine for kicking it off, you get the biggest slice of owl cake.

Re: Rand Paul

Mr. Paul had been informed last weekend that he had attended a fund-raiser in Kentucky with two individuals who later tested positive for Covid-19, a warning that sent a handful of other prominent elected officials into self-quarantine out of caution.

Not Mr. Paul.

He pressed on with his Washington schedule anyway. On Wednesday afternoon, he spoke and voted on the Senate floor. He dined at the Republicans’ closed luncheon on Thursday and on Friday, sitting with fellow senators. And after being informed of the diagnosis on Sunday, Senator Jerry Moran, Republican of Kansas, rose to tell fellow Republicans at lunch that he had seen Mr. Paul that morning at the senators-only gym, according to two people who heard him and Mr. Moran’s spokesman.

He was seen in the Senate swimming pool today too.

COMPLETE MORAL FAILURE.
