Getting educated about Africa

I don't know if this is the right forum for this or not, if I need to move this please let me know. I was just thinking...I've been to various threads around here where debates on Bono and his work in Africa have popped up. People have a lot of different feelings in regard to what plan of action is best when it comes to aid for Africa. Reading those posts have made me realize #1-how complex this issue is and #2-that I know nothing about it. Just wondering if anyone who is 'in the know' on these issues can recommend any websites/books/resources to me that would be a good starting point in educating myself on these issues? Bearing in mind that I'm a newbie to these issues and would need info that would be comprehensible to someone unfamiliar with such things. Thanks!
