1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person?

Lyrics and melody a must. I'm definately a singer person, if they don't have a good singer/lyricist, they could be the best musical band in the world and I wouldn't listen to them.

Lyrics - Bono, Melody - Bono, again. Rhythm - Larry.
 I may have misunderstood this question...

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen?
That band who sang "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" had a pretty hideous frontman.

3. Classical, grunge, punk, metal, rap, classic rock, folk (or
whatever)
I primarily come from the grunge movement, but I like folk rock, classic rock, VERY LITTLE punk rock, some metal. Usually, I'm more intrigued by the style of the songwriting rather than the style of the music.

 I may have misunderstood this question...
Now I understand. I'm all of the above. I like good lyrics, like a good groove, and I like to bang onto an object along with the beat.

1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person?

more melody than lyrics -- poetry is poetry, song lyrics are song lyrics, people conflate the two and they shouldn't ... sometimes i think that writing lyrics is actually harder. it's the melody that lasts, more than the lyrics.

2. Who's the worst frontman frontwoman you've ever seen?

Veruca Salt -- they insulted the audience several times when i saw them in college. they told us, "you were the people we hated in high school." granted, we were a small, exclusive, preppy, generally wealthy liberal arts college way up in the woods of new england ... but are we really the enemy?

3. Classical, grunge, punk, metal, rap, classic rock, folk (or whatever)

there's two kids of music: good music, and bad music. i like good music.

4. Your five favorite lyricists

Bob Dylan
Bruce Springsteen
Elvis Costello
Michael Stipe
Joni Mitchell
honorable mention: Randy Newman

5. Your five favorite guitarists

The Edge
Bruce Springsteen
Keith Richards
Peter Buck
Lyle Lovett

6. The one song that gets you through the day.

"mr. brightside"
also, "miracle drug."
have been inexplicably obsessed with "ordinary world" by duran duran recently.

7. The one song that ruins your day.

toss-up between "mambo #5" and that "who let the dog's out" song. both make me homicidal.

8. General statement, what country produces the best musicians?

the UK, followed by New York (well, it's almost like a country).

9. What musician whom you never liked on record surprised you live?

They Might Be Giants -- got dragged along, and had a realy good time.

10. What band/musician should just give it up right now?

i've stopped wasting my energy actively disliking bands/musicians, but i find the whole idea of being a J-Lo type "triple" threat to be hugely insulting ... so stop right now J-Lo, Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Mandy Moore.

1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person?

I'm a rhythm person. I love the bass in particular. I can live without lyrics. Actually I can live without singing. I like instrumentals. I love "foreign/ethnic" music even though I'm monolingual. The mood is more important to me than the words.

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen?

I don't recall.

3. Classical, grunge, punk, metal, rap, classic rock, folk (or whatever)

All of the above.

4. Your five favorite lyricists
Barry White
Bryan Ferry
Roy Orbison
Michael Hutchence

loll. I seriously don't listen to the words. The voice is one of the musical instruments in a band. Im just as happy listening to Clannad atmospheric wailing as I am to lyrics in my own language that I can understand.

5. Your five favorite guitarists

Adam Clayton
Bernard Edwards
Roxy music bass guitarists (various)
George Benson
Mark Lickley

(I've just woken up so I may have missed some of my favs)

"So Many Men" - Youssou N'dour

7. The one song that ruins your day.

"US Forces" - Midnight Oil

8. General statement, what country produces the best musicians?

All of them. Whether the record companies in their respective countries recognise and promote the good stuff is a different question.

9. What musician whom you never liked on record surprised you live?

Crowded House. I couldn't be bothered with them until I was dragged along to one of their concerts and ended up in GA, in the front, right at the feet of Nick Seymour. (ie the bassist)

10. What band/musician should just give it up right now?

Elton John

1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person? Lyrics and melody combined.

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen? I can't think of anyone I actually saw live that I truly disliked. Can I say Scott Stapp, just from watching Creed videos?

5. Your five favorite guitarists - The Edge, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix, Jack White. Honorable mention - Peter Buck.

6. The one song that gets you through the day - Pride (In The Name of Love). If I'm in a bad mood, all I have to do is play it. It's never failed me.

7. The one song that ruins your day - La-La by Ashlee Simpson. That has to be one of the crappiest things ever recorded.

8. General statement, what country produces the best

1. Generally lyrics, but there is something in the rhythm that
is so primal, it encompasses everything you can't articulate.
2. Worst front man--David Lee Roth. I thought he made
Van Halen completely cheesy.
3. Rock, grunge, blues.
4. Lyricists: Neil Young, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Sting,
John Lennon. I admire Joni Mitchell's lyrics, but they leave
me a little cold.
5. Guitarists: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young,
Stephen Stills, Keith Richard
6. Gets me through the day: Down By the River, Like a Hurricane,
Even Better than the Real Thing
7. Ruins it: Brown Eyed Girl
8. Country: I thought I had an answer to this one. I don't.
Maybe pockets of countries. Seattle, Austin, 49th Parallel
Canada, Dublin, London, Liverpool
9. Sting blew me away live.
10. Who should give it up? Anybody who announced a last tour
and continued it for the next ten years.

(Didn't fit any of my categories, really. But I love Eddie Vedder
on vocals.)

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen? David Lee Roth

Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Michael Stipe, Eddie Vedder, Sarah MacLachlan

5. Your five favorite guitarists
Edge, Bruce, Eric Clapton, Hendrix, can't think of a fifth right now

That song Candy Shop :yuck:

8. General statement, what country produces the best
musicians?

Ireland

9. What musician whom you never liked on record surprised you
live? I can't say I never liked her, but Melissa Etheridge-live she puts her whole heart and soul into it, no surprise since Bruce is her role model. Her voice sounds great live too.

10. What band/musician should just give it up right now? sorry, Rolling Stones

1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person?

Um... umm... I guess it's a toss-up between lyrics and melody, depending on the artist.

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen?

One of the kids at one of my high school bands. He made such a hash out of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here'... I wanted to kill him a little bit.

whatever)

Classic rock, baby. Classic rock.

5. Your five favorite guitarists

Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Mick Taylor, Jerry Garcia

6. The one song that gets you through the day.

Oh, man, changes daily, but I guess as a usual pick-me-up I'll go for some early Stones or Beatles. (Love Me Do - resist it!)

7. The one song that ruins your day.

Oh boy, there are a ton of these... of ones that I actually might hear, I'd go with John Lennon's 'Imagine'. I really hate that song.

8. General statement, what country produces the best
musicians?

Mmm... England?

9. What musician whom you never liked on record surprised you live?

The Dresden Dolls. I'm still not really a big fan, but they played at my high school, and they were pretty damn amazing.

10. What band/musician should just give it up right now?

Oh, very many of them. Very very many. I'll just go with Hilary Duff. :yuck:

1. A lyrics person, a melody person, a rhythm person?

Well all are important, but I would rate melody first, then lyrics, then rythm. I think melody & lyrics are fairly closely related though.

2. Who's the worst frontman/frontwoman you've ever seen?

Too Many. I found Nick Cave nausiating. Maybe I would need to give that time.

3. Classical, grunge, punk, metal, rap, classic rock, folk (or
whatever)

Reasonably classic rock.

In order... Neil Finn, Phil Judd, Chris Martin, Bic Runga, Bono

In order... Tom Morello, The Edge, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien, Johnny Buckland

Anything by Jet. I contemplate suicide.

Powderfinger for sure.
