They do so much to help everybody. It really is amazing how selfless they can be.

I'll certainly agree with that.

I am thinking of all the firefighters who have lost their lives this year in the line of duty-esp. in the FDNY.

And the police officers as well.

I hope their loved ones can find some comfort in knowing how much their heroism is truly appreciated.

When I am called to duty, God
whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life,
whatever be it's age.

Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late
Or save an older person from the
horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and hear the
weakest shout,

Oh my gosh. I completely agree.. and Have always held that opinion in regards to policemen.. For some reason, I just never really thought about 'just what firefighters do'... and Though I get mad every time i get stopped for a ticket and tell the cop as he is writing the ticket to 'please go down to Green Street to stop a drug deal and arrest a real criminal', I realize that at the same time, they're probably shaking as they initially walk to my car wondering if I'm going to pull a gun on them...
