election question
Many of us remember when Clinton was running for president and his people were using "it's the economy stupid" as a guide for the campaign. This was very true of a post-Cold War campaign; earlier Democrats had suffered from being "soft" on defense, but not Clinton. Is it still "the economy stupid" post 9/11? Is foreign policy more important in 2004 than it was in 1992? Why or why not? Opinions wanted please!!

With GHWB, the perception was that he did nothing to move the economy out of a recession (to the extent a president can control this). With last year's tax cuts and consecutive quarters of growth, the catch phrase will not be as effective this year.
