[q]GOP senator sorry for 'serious sin' in 'D.C. Madam' case

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. David Vitter apologized to anyone he disappointed after telephone records linked him to an escort service operated by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, aka the "D.C. Madam."

The Louisiana Republican said in a Monday statement that he told his wife several years ago about a "serious sin" and she forgave him.

"Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," he said.

Vitter's phone number turned up in phone records for Pamela Martin & Associates -- a business Palfrey has called an "erotic fantasy service" -- and Vitter's statement claims he did business with Palfrey's company before he ran for the Senate in 2004.

Palfrey's attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, said he was surprised by Vitter's admission "because we don't really know who is on the list."

Palfrey, however, said Dan Muldia, a private investigator who is writing a book with her, traced the telephone number to the senator.

"I had no idea who he was prior to then, although I'm sure he was a client and he's stated accordingly, but I don't remember this man," Palfrey said.

Palfrey has been indicted and is awaiting trial on charges of money laundering and racketeering. Prosecutors allege that she was involved in prostitution, but Palfrey has denied the allegations, insisting that she ran a legitimate escort service.

Palfrey has further defended her "sexual albeit legal" service by claiming that anyone who provided or received sex for money disobeyed her orders, and in some cases, their own signed contracts.

In his statement, Vitter did not specifically acknowledge soliciting or patronizing prostitutes.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and from my wife in confession and marriage counseling."

[...]

In 2004, the New Orleans native won the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. John Breaux, making him the first Republican senator from Louisiana since Reconstruction.

A staunch conservative, Vitter disavowed same-sex unions during his 2004 campaign, boasting that he had co-authored and fought for the Federal Marriage Amendment. He further vowed to protect "the sanctity of marriage."

"This is a real outrage. The Hollywood left is redefining the most basic institution in human history, and our two U.S. senators won't do anything about it," he said in a statement on his campaign Web site. "We need a U.S. senator who will stand up for Louisiana values, not Massachusetts values."

i'm sure you guessed the last part, right?

All these people who are so preoccupied about what everyone else is doing behind closed doors are the real perverts. It's no surprise so many of them end up involved in sex scandals.

Man stoned to death for adultery
Jul 10 04:38 AM US/Eastern

A man convicted of adultery had been stoned to death in a village, the first time it has confirmed such an execution in five years.

"This case has been recently executed in the village that was mentioned," a judiciary spokesman told reporters about the stoning of the adulterer in a village in that province.

Under G-d's law, adultery is still theoretically punishable by stoning.

In June, the news agency reported that the judiciary had halted the stoning of a man and a woman, believed to be the same man who has now been executed.

The judiciary had up until now vehemently denied any stonings since 2002, although rights activists and press reports have on occasion claimed that such verdicts have been carried out.

Under the punishment of stoning, a male convict is buried up to his waist with his hands tied behind his back, while a female offender is buried up to her neck with her hands also buried.

So,
let's go all in on this
say what we mean
and
mean what we say

Odd, I've never seen a Muslim use the phrase "G-d's law" before.

It certainly isn't a coincidence.

Flynt has done more to protect freedom than any of those bastards.

Since when are the DEMOCRATS the ones obsessed with who we are having sex with???

I'm beginning to think I'm living in some alternate universe the last few days.

Exactly. When I read the part about him apologizing for disappointing people, I laughed. Who cares? Do whatever the fuck you want in your own bedroom, bud. Nobody cares but YOU!

Oooooh the irony!

Perhaps you could try explaining why you don't agree there's an irony instead of taking the easy way out?

i do not need to explain. i don't discuss other people's personal lives. who he screws is his and his wives' business. we thought cheney and the republicans are bad? look at this nonsense that larry flynt and the democrat party is doing. they are just as bad. don't give me this b.s. as the democrats not being corrupt. they are, 10x worse.

The irony is that while you are saying it is no one's business what goes on in these conservatives' marriages, those very same conservatives are trying to make it their business what happens in other people's marriages. And to make it worse, they are doing it in the name of protecting the sanctity of marriage, when they themselves are guilty of destroying that very same sanctity in their own marriage. And yet you defend them.

If recognizing that makes me a third-class scum of a citizen (excellent debate tactic, btw), then I'd be interested in what your definition of a first class citizen is.

Yes, I am not arguing that. This has nothing to do with gay marriage. This has everything to do with a Madam selling her list to Larry Flynt. Gay marriage and having sex with a prostitute are totally different things. It is ultimately another way for Democrats to snitch and try and show the corrupt side of the Republicans. However, this all does come back to haunt them. Do you think that the Republican party doesn't have their watch-dogs sniffing now? The Democrats are setting theirselves up for a huge disaster, and I am sure that the Republicans are waiting for just the right time to disclose it.

What a man and woman does is not our business. Unfortunately, man and man is not in the law book yet, so we can't comment on that. He might be against gays, but that has nothing to do with him screwing a stripper and having some Hustler screwball outing him.

I admire him for revealing to the world before Flynt did. Hear hear. Shame on the Democratic Party. They have become a bunch of low balls who have nothing better than to try and dig up stuff on people. Why don't they pass some issues first.

As far as I know Democrats are on that list either. I doubt it is any organised revelation by the Democrats.

As far as the Democrats having become "low balls who have nothing better than to try and dig up stuff on people", well, the problem is, both parties are sadly using this tactic (just watch some of the TV ads during the last elections) of insulting the other party, which means both parties would have become "low balls who have nothing better than to try and dig up stuff on people."

There would be an easy way out: Legalise prostitution.

I disagree. The conservatives are claiming they are trying to preserve the sanctity of marriage by opposing same sex marriage, yet they clearly don't hold the same standard of sanctity in their own marriages. I do agree that it was good that he at least had the guts to publicly apologize despite the fact that it was possible his name wouldn't have been revealed, but it does not excuse the fact that he publicly crusaded for the sanctity of marriage while at the same time destroying his own. The Democrats may be trying to capitalize on this and show that this is corrupt, but the simple fact of the matter is that it is corrupt to campaign for the sanctity of marriage while destroying it yourself.

Shame on the Democratic Party. They have become a bunch of low balls who have nothing better than to try and dig up stuff on people. Why don't they pass some issues first.

Now honestly, do you think the Republican party doesn't constantly try to dig stuff up on people? Unfortunately that's a large part of what politics has come down to these days - who can dig up the more damning stuff about the opposing side. It is ugly and it is wrong, but you can't seriously claim it's the fault of only one side.
