Constitution Restoration Act

Talk about your Orwellian titles...

'Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the Supreme Court shall not have jurisdiction to review, by appeal, writ of certiorari, or otherwise, any matter to the extent that relief is sought against an element of Federal, State, or local government, or against an officer of Federal, State, or local government (whether or not acting in official personal capacity), by reason of that element's or officer's acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.'[my emphasis added]

Yes, so if these people get their way, invoking God bars the Supreme Court from taking action. Wonderful. I can't possibly foresee any problems with this.

Here's some more information.

Yet another reason to vote Bush out of office.

Before you get toooo worked up, Congress cannot pass a law that takes away power already vested in the Supreme Court.

And Bush didn't introduce the law, nor can he. So your last statement is superfluous.

But it's quite clear that the law was introduced by those who would favor having Bush in office, and you also have to agree that Bush has done a lot of pandering to the religious right.

You adding no more than the opinion piece describing the act.

No, that's exactly it. It would have be ratified by 3/4th of the states I believe, so it probably won't pass. But what it's saying is the Court can't rule on a Pledge of Alligence case, a gay marriage case, an abortion case, because it involves God. That's so dumb. This is not a Christian state and other people in this country, including athiests, deserve freedom too.

It is one of the many laws that are introduced with the sponsor likely knowing that it either (1) won't pass or (2) won't pass Constitutional muster.

Politicians on both sides write up these bogus laws so they can create press statements touting how they are representing their constituents.
