Excellent responses

[Q]Give it a rest. (2.50 / 8)

Sorry Cindy, but I must say that the suffering in Texas right now is quite pertinent. In fact, at a time when we have people suffering, left homeless and devastated from "a little wind and a little rain," I think you can take a break from the camera just for a moment.

I am assumingf of course that she was the person typing....but wow, given the events of the last month....not a smart post.

I was reading about a gentleman in Great Britain, who has been behaving like the British Cindy Sheehan, and appears to be using the same talking points as Cindy....

Turns out his son died in a car accident....and was not killed in the war.

A war is always in trouble when the "not so bright" start revolting, in addition to the intellectuals.

As a fact, her statement cannot be overuled. Whether (or should I say weather) anyone likes to hear it or not, there is a lot more going on than the current trajedy that gets the most news coverage. Not to belittle this hurricane. But I wouldn't be surprised if that's how my post was interpreted anyway

As an opinion, her statement can be contended.

But so to can most any opinion.

Having read more of the blog.....

it makes me laugh, that people are so easily moved sometimes....

Don't fall into the trap of thinking your suffering is more important than someone else's. We are all Americans, and everytime we suffer, be it in Iraq or on the Gulf coast, it is important.

actually, let me expand upon this point.

We're all human, and everytime we suffer, regardless of where we are in regards to any state or status, it is important.
(and there is a lot more to news than who is suffering, or suffering the worst....... or at least there should be....)

So just because there is a hurricane here, terrorism there, a bombing there, an effort there, a capaign here, a struggle there, a holiday here, a remeberance day there, a birth here, a death there......

it's all the same.
It's not different.

We are all human, and we are all in this together

I'm not sure that you can. Your sole agenda from day 1 has been to attack her credibility, not 'empathize' with her suffering.

You must not pretend otherwise.

If you can tell that much about me from an internet chat board, you must have powers beyond those of mortal men.

I have made statements of empathy.

I have also researched enough to know that she has some credibility issues.

The two can exist...inside of me at the same time.

The hurricane became a non-story on Sunday and the March was finally featured on the main networks. Of course to be "fair & balanced" they had to show the measley 200 pro-war protestors too.

Her comments were taken out of context.

i was at the protest this past weekend. lots of fun -- i go more to observe than participate, as it's a lovely carnival of truly countercultural folk, regular folk, socialists, and anarchists. that, and the music was really good. much of the shouting is really idiotic, and those who protested the protest are really no better than anyone in the protest -- all slogans. but such is the nature of a ralley. it's both profound and silly, exhilerating and depression. it is democracy in action, it is the movement of free, thinking people, and it is also the reduction of complex issues into a bunch of signs and monosylabic chants.

still, i did wish i'd made a sign at least for the counter-protesters: "How Many Soldiers-Per-Gallon Does Your SUV Get?"

anyway, i also bumped into Cindy herself and we exchanged a word or two (me: "thank you for all your efforts;" cindy: waves and smiles). first impressions, she's very tall, seems almost blissful, and struck me as rather humble.

also, none of her comments are particularly interesting or profound. her grief is very sincere, but i think the reason she's become such a symbol is precisely the simplicity of her statements and her lack of nuance.

can anybody think of someone who has risen to great power through avoiding complexity and nuance and spouting bumpersticker politics?

:hmm:

it seems as if such reductivist language is necessary to fit into the world of the 3-5 second soundbyte.

They were not necessarily pro-war protestors. They were their supporting the troops, something that Cindy the media whore should look into doing.

oh, and what angered me about the pro-war protestors, was that the "liberal" media labled them "a Support Our Troops demonstration."

what garbage, as if the 100,000 people protesting *don't* support the troops. i suppose all the signs saying either, "I Support Our Troops But Not Our President" or "Support Our Troops - Bring Them Home" went unnoticed?

for the record, i think an abrupt withdrawal would be a mistake. but i do think we are there for the wrong reasons and the management of the war has been so disasterous, so riddled with cronyism and incompetence and ideological blindness, that the noble goal of democracy in the middle east is going to remain out of reach.

wrong.

i was there. there were some who had signs saying "support our troops" but those were drowned out by the people holding signs saying "Cindy is a Nazi Whore" and the chants of "go home, take a shower, move out of your mother's basement."

also, the "Support Our Troops" signs of the anti-war demonstrators obviously don't count?

because there's only one way to support our troops, right?

Wanting to keep our troops there isn't supporting them in my opinion.

Bush is much more a :censored: media whore than Cindy could ever hope to be. Too bad he's trying to look like a President.

Vile, though unsurprising. I guess they can't show that on TV because the references to fascism and sex might scare the kiddies.

Right, just like you're not allowed to have both a grieving mother and an antiwar loose cannon existing inside of you at the same time. The presence of the latter of course disproves the existence of the former.

What part of her comment isn't true?

She notes that Rita is bad, but that there are other things in this nation and in the world worthy of news coverage, at least that's what I get from her comment.

good point.

she must be pretty effective if every word she says is pounced upon and torn apart and used against her.

I want to go on record as saying I would not EVER condone a sign directed at her. I think there is something wrong with that.

I also think it wrong to label opposing marchers as "pro-war". Not exactly what I would consider a fair label. I happen to know that there was a mother whose son died with Casey Sheehan marching with the "pro-war" group. She had a VERY different take on things.

don't worry; the media labled them "Support Our Troops" protestors, thus, by default, implying that those marching against the war didn't support the troops.

its the nature of protests -- you need to fit your position into 5 or 6 words that will fit on a sign.

yet ... gosh, it's such a fun afternoon! i highly recommend protests, of any political strip.

:|

So is it any more correct to label them Pro-War?

Is there a label that you think appropriate for both groups?

oh give it up dreadsox. your president's bullshit war has absolutely no credibility, and people are starting to catch on.

viva la revolution?

not quite.

but please america, get the republicans the FUCK out of office.

this can't be repeated enough. this protesting needs to interupt everything that goes on until he withdraws the troops. there's no other way they'll listen. people must be in their face at all times bringing up the issue.
