Olive
YES I think he will.
How? Dunno exactly.
I have faith in the guy-Bush.
He is making a trip to africa soon.
He did tell Bono in his office that Aids in Africa was GENOCIDE.
He told Bono he wanted him back...
Umm other than their METHODS on HOW dont match exactly I think they will meet on some common ground.

I do like Bono's 2 prong approach to terrorism ie -Snuff out the thugs.
and
Educate and FEED the the suspectible ones close to the terrorists to help them see the US' compassion..and to alleviate future terrorists from springing up.

The same people that bash Bush never bash Clinton .

And they are IGNORING the fact under the circumstances Bush is DOING MORE than ever Clinton did.
They never critized Clinton re Africa/Aids.
Why?

I can see why everyone is upset here, and at the least a bit curious to why and what is next?

I think, Rono, that Diamond's point is while CLinton did nothing for this cause he never gets credit. Yet Clinton's supporters jump all up Bush's ass and demand to know everything and why???

Folks Bush has proven to be an honest man thus far, and if he said he would give a certain dollar amount and since has backtracked, then don't we assume he ahs a damn good reason? OF course we want to know what it is, but maybe we don't as we are not qualified or possibly prepared to hear the answer.

ANd I am saying that in a way that insinuates that he is making an attempt, that more will come.

And diamond, love your sig- bro

I dont think bashing Bush will do anything. I hope that Bush will do something and do it fast. We (world) need to find a cure for this diease and make it available to everyone.

Wow. Some great discussion.

A few thoughts.

One, I see some new faces to this discussion, who express here on this very thread their disappointment with the inadequacy of the aid Bush promised. Let me offer your personal invitation to write or call. Letters are on the site in my sig (thanks for the plug Olive...LOL). Here are the #'s again to make it nice and easy.

Bush 202 456 1414
O'Neill 202 622 0190

Happy calling.

Someone asked what else we can do. Here's what, to my mind.

1. Don't give up speaking out! Remember, aid is only one of the issues here. Debt cancellation and fair trade are critical, and we MUST deal with our leaders on these issues because they are the ones in the offices of power. But WE put them there. So the power is really ours.

2. There is indeed something to be said for private aid. There are a lot of places where anyone can sponsor a child. I use Christian Children's fund. They're not enough by themselves, and they could improve, but I shudder to think what Africa would be like without them.

Bono's emphasized how important it is not to "play politics" as he puts it, with this. He's right. Just a thought.

DB9-- you suggest (wisely ) the need for facts. Got any? Educate us. And btw, your final wish for the B man is lovely. Amen!

You all know the deal. Make the call, write the letter. Let me know and I'll put you on the list.

Then when I meet Bono in Dublin, I can show him the site, he'll hire me to work for DATA and I'll invite every Angel for a private party at Adam's castle.

I agree Miss -honey (wild)

Your point and everyone elses are so true. No matter our political beliefs, we should all unite for this one; to help out our fellow man in need.

Sherry Darling has a great post, and what she is doing is great!

Anyway, thanks for the pointers

What AWHoney said.
What ZEdge said.
In a nutshell-Clinton talked/acted like he was concerned about Africa/Aids/Debt.-did little to nothing.

Bush talked about Africa/Aids/Debt and did a little something..not enough though, reason being War on Terror. Meantime liberals are ready to cast stones immedeatley at Bush. Believe me Bush is not done w Debt Relief/Aids in Africa... Esp w Bono pestering him . I hope you guys (who bash Bush) sent some of your Bush 600.00 tax refund to an Aids Shelter or African Charity of your choice.
Its nice to have choices on how to spend your money.

Sherry you are great.
Thank you for being you

NO DIAMOND - YOU BACK OFF PLEASE!

Bush has done NOTHING, you Bono-hugger, you!

Seriously, all he's done is take credit for what others have done. In fact, I fully feel he's done this his entire life. I'm not anti-Republican. In fact, there were some Republican candidates that were brilliant and would have obtained my vote. But inexplicably, Bush somehow bought the election and now we have to put up with his useless dribble for another few years.

I started to have some respect for the man after Sept. 11th. But now I know just how "dedicated" he really is to fighting the root of terrorism - and that's pretty much the equivalent to zero.

So don't tell Lilly to back down - you do. Until Bush proves otherwise, your unwavering support of him is illogical.

The Bush honest ?

Well well, I think the times are diferent, all I can say is that we should check the "friends" of the Bush family, for instance some saudi that I don't want to mention here, that after tons and tons of bombs, is still a fugitive, about what I know, the Bush family has had many bussines with mexican politicians over the years, specially in what refers to Oil, just for the record, for his bussines with the Bush family, Jorge Diaz Serrano (PEMEX DIRECTOR) spent 6 years in jail for corruption, I think the best that can happen to the world is that Mr. Bush shut up, ask the japanese maybe he should try pretzels again.

Seriously, you Bush lovers defend Bush with less arguments than the ones that bash him here, why people should trust Bush? and your answer is, just because. or even better you answer "back off" nice way of showing knowledge.

Olive, I just want to make clear that I never, never doubt of Bono honesty, that is the one thing that is more certain. About "photo oportunities", well, check the succes of U2 and Bono in the USA, is easy for a politician to know that he will won more than it would lose hanging with that guy. and if is just one vote, they will go for it. and after the latest developments, it seems they only smiled to Bono while he was there, as soon as he leaved, they changed their minds.

I'm glad to see this topic being debated by you all. I'd like to have faith in GW that he'll actually make a difference with debt relief and all BUT isn't he taking that trip to Africa in 2003? Hey, I know the man is busy but why put off such an important trip until then? The stats showing how many people dying in Africa are staggering. Why wait????

America isn't the only wealthy country. I wonder what England and Canada are offering in way of assistance? Australia even. Europe?
It's a shame that the world looks on America to get people out of trouble. Africa is in dire need of help. $200 mil/$500 mil. Every bit helps. If or when Bush opens the purse strings and gives the much needed aid, I doubt Bono will care much about getting thje credit for it. I believe his intentions are great too. Sure he'd be irked. It would piss anyone off.
If the Bush supporters are right, combined with Bono's persistance and the many others involved, time will show that he'll come good with the money. I'd just like to see the rest of the world helping.
That'd be nice, wouldn't it?
