There you go being a better person than me again--you know I wasn't patient, I was damn pissy.

Geez, we are not communicating here are we? No one, with the exception of Dano, has said anything negative in this thread about Bono hanging out with conservatives. Why are you guys insisting that that is what the rest of us are saying here and trying to 'enlighten' us otherwise?
because 90% of political related threads here start (not even end) with conservatives sighing that they are outnumbered

Extremely well said! On the scope far beyond Bono and Africa.

And THIS is WHAT makes Bono, Bono.

Going to places where most wouldnt predict, and finding the goodness in those people and places, that others wouldn't.(Africa/G.O.P camp)

And then reporting back to world that we need to deal from love and not fear, and be more tolerable w/o casting judgement, ON EVERYONE.(Africa/G.O.P.camp)

All I can say is, I think Bono knows what he's doing. I don't think he'd let himself be used.
To put it in my Grampa's words: "That Bone-Oh is a good smart man."

Ah.. This is the exact same thing I hear many many Republicans (And I say Republicans to emphasize their Party Allegiance) when faced with George W's Latest Trend to Compromise in political issues more in favor of teh Democrats rather than his Conservative Ideals..

"Don't shit on Bush.. He knows what he's doing".

"Just you Wait.. Bush has it all under control.. there's something going on that we don't."

Now this may all be nice and true, however Elevated's Comments just seem to mirror the at times shaky confidence these Republicans are having at the moment.

Lemonite:

My confidence is NOT shaky in the African Aid issue. In fact, it has been building over the past 3 years. Do you think Bachus would take some of the unpopular positions he takes in international affairs if he did not have confidence in them? The thing is, he has been there, seen what is going on, and wants to improve the situation, as do Bono, Sachs, Bush, possibly O'Neill, etc. A better international business climate will ultimately mean a BIGGER and better business climate for all of us. I am confident of that. Well-versed opinions from shock jocks and former tabloid tv anchors should not influence foreign policy; experience, evidence, and economic common sense should.

Excellently said.. I was just calling someone out who seemed to be sort of justifying their position to themselves.. Just calling the BS as I see it from people I think might be fooling themselves (Mistakenly or with Due Reason) or trying to fool us (In General)... That's it..

Bono plays politics very well. Remember earlier this year he was with French Pres Chirac selling Debt Relief to him. Went on about what a good man Chirac was. The same guy that Bono got up on a stage in Paris a few years earlier, in front of an international tv audience, and called a 'wanker'.

I agree
now to find some politicians (and voters) on this globe who are able to think beyond short term success
