crouching tiger hidden dragon
almost famous
this is spinal tap
snatch
lock stock and two smoking barrels

robin hood prince of thieves
copland
a simple plan
scary movie- had discussions with my work colleagues over this film, they were disgusted by it that they walked out
lethal weapon 4

Underrated films

anything by jackie chan, the man never fails to entertain, you have to give him credit with the fact he does alot of his own stunts, he's the only actor in the film you'd recognise, and his shoddy english

back to the future films

most overrated films
traffic- SO LONG, just hurry up and FINISH THE FILM already
mission impossible 2 - how on earth can saving the world from a deadly virus lead to an out and out kungfu fighting film?

any movie by kevin costner

ANYTHING BY JERRY BRUCKHEIMER!

Best - Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amlie Poulain (Amlie from Montmartre) (completely mindblowing; a film that only comes once every ten years or so), Three Colours Trilogy (brilliant, beautiful, and intelligent)

Worst - too difficult. Probably Armageddon (bad script, bad casting, borderline propaganda film).

Underrated - A.I. (I loved it completely), Memento (a purely brilliant, yet underpromoted film)

Overrated - Star Wars series (bad scripts, erratic casting), Titanic (too much hype, too formulaic)

"He had lived through an age when men and women with energy and ruthlessness but without much ability or persistence excelled. And even though most of them had gone under, their ignorance had confused Roy, making him wonder whether the things he had striven to learn, and thought of as 'culture,' were irrelevant. Everything was supposed to be the same: commercials, Beethoven's late quartets, pop records, shopfronts, Freud, multi-coloured hair. Greatness, comparison, value, depth: gone, gone, gone. Anything could give some pleasure; he saw that. But not everything provided the sustenance of a deeper understanding." - Hanif Kureishi, Love in a Blue Time

Best:
Everything that Paul Thomas Anderson, Coen Brothers, Woody Allen and Robert Altman have done,
+ American Beauty and Happiness (by the hilarious Todd Solondtz).

Worst:
Too much to list.

Why the worst are always more than the best?

Best Flicks
-American Beauty
-Election
-Green Mile
-Traffic (yeah a bit long but still)
-The Insider
-Gladiator
-A.I.
-Clerks
-Vertigo (actually I like any of the Hitchcocks)
-Clockwork Orange (Kubrick another legend)

Now that I think about 1999 was a great year for movies, this year sucked major ass. Unless they realese everything in the next months, you might as well skip the Oscars.
