I really hate news articles. But anyway, does anyone know what precise mental illnesses they are referring to? Considering what falls under the classification of mental illness and the large number of society at large who suffer them, is this surprising? Or, then, an actual argument for or against capital punishment? Depression is a mental illness, for example, and many people experience some form of it. But the boundaries for depression are so widely varied it is impossible to use it to describe any one thing. There's also debate in the crimes which put someone on death row and the mental health of anyone capable of committing such crimes.

I'd love to see some stats on all of this. Makes jumping to conclusions so much easier.
