i should add that while i don't agree with everything the author says, i'm using that article in particular to illustrate my point.

canada owes almost everything it has to britain, but in the last couple of decades, everything has been done to make it sound as though canada's existed independently for 400 years.

...yes, this is a sore spot.
 
i want to hear what my fellow canadians think about what i wrote earlier. i get pretty fired up about it, in case you can't tell... :wink:
 
Yeah, you know we inherited our common law system from them (not to mention the Constitution), but that gets forgotten. Although I do think that our British "heritage" (not sure exactly how to refer to it) is given more credence in Ontario and the Maritime provinces than in the prairies or out west.

The debate about Britain's role in Canadian history has no place in this thread, which was clearly intended to commemorate Canadian soldiers in WWI. Start another thread if you want to discuss that topic.
