So I have a question for the liberals/democrats on the forum. It's been a hot topic lately that DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz could not identify differences between liberals and socialists. (Video below)

Now clearly, Schultz has proven time and time again that she is a clueless buffoon. My question is, what is the real difference between socialists and liberals? And how would Bernie Sanders not be considered a socialist?

Socialists oppose capitalism, liberals don't. That's a big enough difference, and Sanders can be more effectively described as a social democrat.

All this talk about ISIS on the border made me remember the terrorist threat of the Sandanistas being two days from Brownsville and how we had to continue the good fight to stop Ortega and his Communists from invading the US.

Socialism is when the government has central planning and runs the private sector. Moreover, it tries to provide for everyone's needs through the government. i.e. Affordable Care Act. It can't afford it's own policies, which is why Socialist governments run outstanding deficits.
I don't think Conservatives believe in really anything socialist, but it's not a pure Laissez Faire capitalist belief either. Our government is obviously a mixed economy. However, the republicans under Bush, Bush, and Reagan have had massive amounts of government spending. Mostly for military and not for things like school lunches or welfare.

Why would a socialist government inherently run budget deficits? Do you really believe it's impossible for socialist governments to have a balanced budget?

Also, the ACA is not socialist. It's the biggest handout to the insurance industry and there's not even a public option for insurance.

Socialist government are not designed to be able to afford their policies. Look at Greece, Puerto Rico and many European nations during the Cold War and post Cold War. In a perfect world, yes, they would be balanced. But perfect systems don't exist in the real world. There is way too much government spending involved and not enough revenue.

And yes, you are correct about ACA. My mistake. I was more in reference to socialized medicine and wasn't clear about that. Thanks for correcting me.

This doesn't make sense. Of courses they are designed to be sustainable, but just like any other system or private corporation; they can fail if mismanaged.

And as you've corrected yourself ACA is far from being "socialist".
