So I have a question for the liberals/democrats on the forum. It's been a hot topic lately that DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz could not identify differences between liberals and socialists. (Video below)

Now clearly, Schultz has proven time and time again that she is a clueless buffoon. My question is, what is the real difference between socialists and liberals? And how would Bernie Sanders not be considered a socialist?

do you know you what a socialist is?

What I don't understand is why the term "socialism" is so often seen as akin to Stalinist Russia.

growing up during the Cold War conditioned undereducated olds to think that socialism = breadlines. (but keep the government out of my social security and medicare).

Having a camp-enclave in Mexico is not that farfetched. We had an AQ offshoot camp in remote Lake County Oregon in the early 2000s.

And this is a personal connection. A ring of several would-be terrorists were apprehended before staging an attack on Fort Dix NJ. They rented a house in a quaint little gated vacation community called Big Bass Lake in Gouldsboro, PA. They were practicing in the state park land nearby. Guess where I live? Big Bass Lake Community.

And I'm skeptical of Snopes.

From the link below.

"Snopes is run by a man and a woman with no background in investigation using Google. Snopes.com has been considered the 'tell-all final word' on any comment, claim and email. Once negative article by them and people point and say, "See, I told you it wasn't true!" But what is Snopes? What are their methods and training that gives them the authority to decide what is true and what is not? For several years people have tried to find out who exactly was behind the website Snopes.com. Only recently did they get to the bottom of it. Are you ready for this? It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators scouring public records in Washington, no researchers studying historical stacks in libraries, no team of lawyers reaching a consensus on current caselaw. No, Snopes.com is just a mom-and-pop operation that was started by two people who have absolutely no formal background or experience in investigative research."

So wait, you're saying that we can't trust the mom-and-pop operation, but should instead trust the news reported on... one man's obviously right-wing blog?

Also, Accuracy in Politics is an interesting choice of title for a blog with articles such as Is Gun Confiscation Just the Beginning?, The Lap Dog Bites Its Master, various conspiracy theories peddled by infowars.com, and this charming little image:

Definitely an objective source to trust vs. Snopes!

So an obviously conservative blog "calls out" snopes because it goes against their agenda?

You're wrong about the terrorist camp in Oregon, there was only a guy who wanted to set one up, it was never established: https://m.fbi.gov/#https://www.fbi.gov/newyork/press-releases/2009/nyfo091509.htm

Also, have you ever read the research that goes into snopes articles? They're pretty rigorous and stand up to scrutiny and if someone comes forward with new evidence they change their conclusion. Unlike right wing "news" websites like Breitbart and Townhall.

Yes, I do. And as expected, no one answers my question. I am just curious if liberals can't differentiate specific policy they believe in that is not socialist. It's not a complicated question.

So...the much anticipated GOP debate is in 2 days and Christie is IN while Ass Juice, Perry are OUT.

Oops!

Santorum and Perry out. Oh no!
I'm glad Kasich snuck in there, though. I think he may be a riser once the debates start; he's done very well in the state of Ohio. They may need to cut another candidate, though, to make room for Christie on the stage.

I don't really think the word "liberal" means much of anything anymore, but most democrats do support an array of socialist policies in terms of wealth redistribution and state-sponsored welfare; I don't think that is debatable. What I don't understand is why the term "socialism" is so often seen as akin to Stalinist Russia.

There was an answer.

And why is socialism a bad thing that needs to be differentiated from liberalism?

I'm curious if you can't differentiate" specific policy you believe in that is not fascism?

Do you see why we're not engaging in this game? You're already presuming in your question the answer. You're asking us to prove a negative in your mind.

So many Trump faces in this thread. It's like the bizarro world version of all the smoking Bonos we had a couple months back.
