From what I'm reading in various places, it is because the clock of the server(s) itself is "drifting"

I have a laptop that does the same thing. I reset it every 6 mos and it slowly but surely gets fd up. Has made me late to meetings, late to pick up my kid, and almost made me lose an Ebay auction once...an important auction on something I'm not allowed to talk about here.

this is why i set my computer's clock to calibrate itself with specific websites, but not interference

it checks itself with apple's u.s. clock server, apparently.
