IO: I'm good at picking acquisition targets...

Goodbye Fleet, AT&T Wireless, Bank One, and MBNA.

Hello Bank of America, Cingular, JP Morgan Chase, and...oh look...Bank of America again.

There's too many mergers these days, and I'm tired of getting "We're changing our name" things in the mail.

It makes for a fun time when you are an employee of a merging company...

that's what i was thinking about/referring to/whatever in my post. late last year i used a connection in delaware and was trying to get a job there. they knew someone who worked at mbna and worked in hr. they said they wouldn't be doing any hiring until the first of the year. no big deal, it was like november or maybe even early december at this point.

then come late january all of a sudden my connection tells me there's been a hiring freeze. i was surprised as it's not like mbna hasn't been making money. now i know why.

i hope i won't get in any trouble for saying any of this, it's not like i'm a former employee or anything

The cat's out of the bag, and the merger has been publically announced. The only trouble that occurs is when "insiders" start blabbing before the announcement and then people start buying and selling stock based on that information.

oh okay good, i didn't know the reason for the hiring freeze or anything. i didn't know about this until you posted really!

things like this is how i know i wouldn't make a good investment banker or anything. let's say that he did tell me there was a hiring freeze because they were about to merge with bank of america. my first thought? "oh, i bank with them!" not "oh, better buy stocks!" it wouldn't occur to me at all that i could make money from something like that and i wouldn't even if i knew how. my parents raised me with values and ethics.
