My alarm went off at 7am. Song playing on the radio was "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band.

Got in the car at 8:37am, and the song playing on the car radio was "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band.

Switched it off and plugged in my Ipod, set to random play, and the damn thing played "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band.

Had a meeting w/ my boss at 11am. The radio playing in his office was playing "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band.

Got a sandwich at 12:58pm, and as I left the deli, "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band began playing on the radio behind the counter.

Walked in the door home at 5:48pm, my girl was listening to Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits, and "Jetairliner" came on.

Sat down to play with the computater and listen to some tunes at 11:59pm. My Itunes on random just played "Jetairliner" by Steve Miller Band.

~~whistles~~

I heat up, I can't cool down
You got me spinnin'
'Round and 'round
'Round and 'round and 'round it goes
Where it stops nobody knows
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin' flame
Burnin' flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher
Abra abra cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra abra cadabra
Abracadabra
You make me hot, you make me sigh
You make me laugh, you make me cry
Keep me burnin' for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove
Abra abra cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra abra cadabra
Abracadabra
I feel the magic in your caress
I feel magic when I touch your dress
Silk and satin, leather and lace
Black panties with an angel's face
I see magic in your eyes
I hear the magic in your sighs
Just when I think I'm gonna get away
I hear those words that you always say
Abra abra cadabra
I want to reach out and grab ya
Abra abra cadabra
Abracadabra
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin' flame
Burnin' flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher
Yeah
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round

 I love this song.

And my favourite Steve Miller song:

Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
Some people call me Maurice
Cause I speak of the pompitous of love

People talk about me, baby
Say I'm doin' you wrong, doin' you wrong
Well, don't you worry baby
Don't worry
Cause I'm right here, right here, right here, right here at home

Cause I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my lovin' on the run
Wooo Wooooo

You're the cutest thing
That I ever did see
I really love your peaches
Want to shake your tree
Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time
Ooo-eee baby, I'll sure show you a good time

Cause I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my lovin' on the run

I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner

I'm a joker

I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

Wooo Woooo

People keep talking about me baby
They say I'm doin' you wrong
Well don't you worry, don't worry, no don't worry mama
Cause I'm right here at home

You're the cutest thing I ever did see
Really love your peaches want to shake your tree
Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time
Come on baby and I'll show you a good time

You do realise I will probably end up using my Christmas voucher on a Best of Steve album now.

Yeah, besides the whole "his song is stalking me thing" Steve Miller is pretty cool. I'm a Midnight Toker!

I had to google it...came up with this

In Steve Miller's The Joker, what is "the pompatus of love"?

If you have ever listened to the radio, you have probably heard Steve Miller's "The Joker" at some point or another. If not, you have heard it sampled in numerous pop songs, most recently in Shaggy's "Angel". The song begins with it's unforgettable bass line and these lyrics:

"Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
Some people call me Maurice
Cause I speak of the pompatus of love"

The first lines are easy. "Space Cowboy" and "Gangster of Love" are old Steve Miller Band songs. Maurice is probably from his song "Enter Maurice". But what in the world does "pompatus" mean?

Look at the lyrics for "Enter Maurice". It contains the line "My dearest darling, come closer to Maurice so I can whisper sweet words of epismetology in your ear and speak to you of the pompitous of love.". Yet another reference to the mysterious P word (spelling varies). And so the mystery remained until "The Straight Dope" got on the case. They tracked down an old song called "The Letter" by a group called the Medallions. It contained a line very similar to the line from "Enter Maurice".

The answer was finally revealed when The Straight Dope tracked down the author of the original Medallions song, Vernon Green. He claims that the orignal word is "puppetutes". He came up with this word to describe his idea woman, a "paper-doll fantasy figure". I guess it's pretty obvious why Steve Miller didn't want to confess the true meaning. He probably had no idea what it meant.

Yeah. Steve had some good weed.

I do actually like the Steve Miller Band but I dont own any of his albums for some reason. I certainly heard enough as a teen. Suits the beach, his songs. Suits todays weather. Over here, that is, not Canada, or wherever Mr Brau is hiding.

I won a name that tune contest when I was on my Jr. year spring break in high school. I was the first one to yell out "The Joker" and I won a prize. I had to get on stage and dance for everyone on the beach to the song in order to get my prize. I have pics of it too.

:shifty:

anyway I love the Steve Miller Band.

I saw them back in the late 70's too. They were touring with a couple of other bands and I thought they blew the other bands away....at least as well as I can remember. :shifty:
