I was thinking how most of my favorite U2 songs were NOT released as singles! List your top 5 songs that were not singles, and if you think they'd have made good singles. I can't say if mine would, I trust the band to put out what they think will sell, I have weird taste anyway and stuff I like usually doesn't go over well with the mainstream. Anyway here's my picks:

1- Red Hill Mining Town
2- In God's Country
3. The Unforgettable Fire
4. Ultraviolet
5. The Three Sunrises

Now, if any of these were singles in a country other than the US I didn't know it :uhoh:

It's so hard to narrow it down to just 5! OK, here's my list of favorites that to my knowledge were never released anywhere in the world as singles:

Bad
Tomorrow
Running To Stand Still
Drowning Man
Ultraviolet (Light My Way)

Numbology had a good list...

-The Electric CO.
-Seconds
-MLK
-Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car
-Wake Up Dead Man

Man...I wanted to put October, Acrobat, and Running to Stand Still on there...not to even mention Bad. x_x

How about a top ten in no particular order:

- Kite
- Acrobat
- Red Hill Mining Town
- In a Little While
- Gone
- Heartland
- So Cruel
- Love Is Blindness
- Tomorrow
and ofcourse Bad.

The Unforgettable Fire was very much a single, and I'm pretty sure in the US. If I remember right, the bonus tracks on it were what became Wide Awake In America. Or maybe it was on the UF single in Europe and the demand for the bonus tracks was high in the US ... I can't remember. Someone else probably knows this much better than I do.

Now, my five, in no particular order and with too many omissions;

- Gone
- Bad
- Acrobat
- Tomorrow
- Surrender

Eek, just five... :yikes:

Ehh, let's see:

Acrobat
Like a Song
Love Is Blindness
Lemon
Hawkmoon 269

2- In God's Country

That's on atu2.com's list of singles.

Top Five:
Running To Stand Still
Promenade
The Ground Beneath Her Feet
Acrobat
Like A Song

for ten:
Do You Feel Loved
Bad
Zooropa
Slug
Lady With The Spinning Head

Oh yes, and Heartland

Axver, I didn't know that, and I was a big U2 fan in high school at the time! I had thought Bad was a single somewhere  and Gone too  After reading your posts these last few months I was surprised, no, shocked, to see your age, Axver. I thought you were my age or older. Happy 17th Birthday to a knowledgeable U2 fan!

Avoided semi-singles like Until the End of the World and Bad (Wide Awake in America)..........

A Sort of Homecoming
One Tree Hill (although an NZ single)
Running to Stand Still
Seconds
Zooropa (radio single though)

Oh, how'd I forget that one from my list? Chalk that in as a sixth one.

I'm trying to find the place where I read it, but I can't. But I had a look on u2wanderer.org and the UF single wasn't released in the USA while WAIA initially was, and some versions of UF around the world had its tracks (apart from Bad). When imports of WAIA started charting, it was re-released worldwide.

I had thought Bad was a single somewhere  and Gone too

I know Bad has received a lot of airplay over the years, but sadly neither it or Gone were singles. I think they both would have done incredibly, especially Bad after Live Aid.

Why thank you! :)

Mmmm... Wide Awake In America.

It was sort of a Bad single! :p

In no particular order:

-Bad
-Acrobat
-Gone
-Wire
-Red hill mining town

and a few more:
-Indian summer sky
-Do you feel loved
-ultra violet
-electric co.
-In god's country

Why was Until the end of the world a semi-single? where was it released?

1. Until The End Of The World
2. Acrobat
3. Ultra Violet
4. Gone
5. Spanish Eyes

Acrobat and Ultra Violet could have been good singles.
Spanish Eyes may have gone down really well in Latino Countries as well as the rest of the world.

Kite could have been a FANTASTIC single. With an emotional and powerful video, it would have been number 1 in no time. I get pissed that U2 didn't do anything about it.

1. Ultraviolet
2. A Sort of Homecoming
3. Dirty Day
4. Heartland
5. Running to Stand Still

trying for an ordered top ten

1. zoo station
2. promenade
3. ultraviolet
4. one tree hill
5. seconds
6. heartland
7. acrobat
8. do u feel loved
9. indian summer sky
10. running to stand still

You stupids. In God's Country was a single in the U.S.

My Top 5 in Order Are:

Bad
Red Hill Mining Town
Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Babyface
Mothers of the Dissapeared

Love is Blindness
Acrobat
Ultraviolet
Do You Feel Loved
New York

New York could have rocked the rock charts here in the US.
