I have never understood why U2 didn't release more singles from TUF...Pride and the title track were the single releases. Obviously people have commented before about Bad not being released as a single, but I think Wire should have been too.

The chorus is catchy, it's fast-paced, it's single-material. I really think it could have been a huge hit for them.

Wire

Innocent, and in a sense I am
Guilty of the crime that's now in hand
Such a nice day
Throw your life away
Such a nice day
Let it go

Cold these eyes, I can't believe it
Cold, this heart is slow
Heart is stone

Call me
Such a cold heart
Such a cold man
Watch you tear your self apart

So lay me down
My soul to give
So lay me down
The longest sleep
Oh, the longest sleep

In I come and out you go you get
Here we are again now, place your bets
Is this the time
The time to win or lose
Is this the time
The time to choose

Cold these eyes, I can't believe it
So deep inside a cold fire
Cold, this heart is slow...
Heart is stone

Any time your on there
(Kiss me...)
Won't you tell me
That's it just give me it

In some white track
You come right back
Cartoon cutout
Cut throat let out
I'm on your side
Be on the both side
I'm on right track
You get off my back
I'm no dope
I give you hope
Here's the rope
Here's the rope
Now...swing away

Wire has to be one of U2's most dark songs. It's absolutely incredible, the last verse is cathartic, and it gives me chills.

It's hard to release a song with no true chorus.

Good song, but no true chorus.

True is a bad word to use in this instance. The lyrics are slightly different in each chorus, but musically the chorus is always exactly the same. So you see, it does have a 'true' chorus.

Not in radio talk.

don't get me wrong, i love wire. it's such a sexy song. :combust:

oh btw, you got the lyrics wrong. it should be "any time you're on there" etc. Your is possessive. :nitpick:

Wasn't me. Seems somebody working for U2.com doesn't know their grammer. Believe me, I correct people about your and you're all the time.

I don't know, The Three Sunrises & Love Comes Tumbling would have been more radio friendly I think. Shorter single versions of A sort of Homecoming & Bad could also have worked

This song actually did make it's way to radio and got some airplay........peaked at #39 on the Rock airplay charts or something to that effect.....

Excellent song. I've been listening to TUF lately and Wire is fast becoming my second-favorite song on the album. I love the little scream he does after the "Kiss me" line.

I used to love Wire a lot before, for it's fast pace and guitar work. But I don't know.. over the years I've gotten kinda bored of it. Maybe its cos I can't understand half or most of the lyrics just by listening.. unless I look them up. So it's been nothing more than a catchy tune to me. Although............. that ending 'swing away' gives me chills too. Always reminds me of the movie, Signs. lol.

I love this song (a few weeks ago I was literally addicted to it), but I don't think it'd make a good single. When I'm trying to make friends and family listen to U2, and I'm choosing really good songs to impress them:wink: , this isn't one I'd choose. It's a great song, but it's kind of hard to digest the first few times and the vocals can be a little frightening!

It's a great track - one of my faves off TUF though I don't know if it really is singles' material. Not that it's all that relevant to me since I'm normally fonder of tracks that don't make the singles list.

I've never liked that song and I don't think it would do good as a single. It scares me and makes me think suicidal thoughts.

Oh, I love Wire greatly and feel it's wildly underappreciated. But, in my opinion, is pretty far from a potential radio hit.

The end of the song kills me, love it.

I like Wire very much since the first time I listened to UF, but IMO the 2 better UF songs (tuf & bad) and the more logical as a single (pride) were the better choices. It's one of the few U2 albums in which I agree 100% with the single's choice...

:macdevil:

Hehe, they should release Boomerang II as a single, now. Want to "f-up the mainstream" Bono, there you have it!

Indian Summer Sky is great too.

Wire is:

a) very scary, had it been a single
b) extremely good
c) used in Miami Vice
d) all of the above

btw, there is a third single, off TUF (a sort of homecoming) but it's called Wide Awake in America, it comes with a video too.
