What would a great "primitive riff" sound like?

I was reading the other day about this new song Original of the Species which was described as being driven by a "primitive riff".So I started thinking about what a great "primitive riff" would sound like. All I could come up with is that it would be apishly loping (I have no idea what that means but, those words immediately came to mind), slightly funky, thick and aggresive.Since that's all I could come up with I was wondering if anybody else could imagine what a great "primitive riff" would sound like.

Try Bon Jovi ...

Lots of primitive riffs for them. Check out any of their albums.

Someone please tell me that this was a sarcastic comment aimed at insulting Bon Jovi...please...because if you're seriously calling Led Zeppelin a hair metal band...well then
