Hi y'all,

just post here the the "best U2 concert" setlist-wise, and give a brief explanation why. Simply "I was there" might not be too satisfying, okay? As a reference page, you might look at www.u2-vertigo-tour.com

Though my heart is still banging loudly for the beutiful, beautiful second show in Auckland (with I Still haven't Found.../In A Little While, Angel Of Harlem, Walk On/You'll Never Walk Alone, Bad/'40', The Saints Are Coming, Desire - and, of course, an unforgettable One Tree Hill) I'll vote for another show: the third night in U2's Hometown:

Dublin, 27th June 2005
1. Vertigo (the usual European stomping opener)

2. All Because Of You (nice spot for the rocker, usually buried
by the band in the encore)

3. Gloria (together with "The Electric Co." one of the
great early song rediscoveries)

4. Elevation/The Boys (in this live gem a perfect snippet for the
Are Back In Town celebrated homecoming of U2)

5. An Cat Dubh (one of the other surprises from the early
days - "for the Irish in here", not only!

6. Into The Heart (a nice moment of reflection and the magic
of classic U2 sounds - pure emotion!)

7. Beautiful Day (the standard Greatest Hits rocker ...

8. Blackbird (... linked with a The Beatles snippet
with the spirit of civil rights' movement)

9. I Still Haven't (Beautiful spot for a beautiful song, an
Haven't Found ... immortal U2 anthem for everybody)

10. Original Of (another surprise with this "new"
The Species anthem - pure U2 with a lot of soul)

11. Bad/ Dirty Old Town (one of the great, now rarely played
U2 live tracks with a fitting snippet)

12. City Of Blinding (a classic track from the "new" album
linking to the next part of the show)

13. Miracle Drug (another great song from the tour's
album, unfortunately gone in 2006)

14. Sometimes You (the core of the gig with Bono musically
Can't .../Black Hills ... remembering Bob - and the funeral)

15. Love And Peace (the dark tune from HTDAAB, played in
Or Else the middle Croke Park and of the set)

16. Sunday Bloody (WAR's hymn fighting against violence,
Sunday performed, where it all happened ...)

17. Bullet.../ Johnny .../ (the next anti-war protest tune ...)
The Hands .../Please

18. Running To Stand .../ (linked with its TJT counterpart,
Happy Birthday/ Walk On dedicated to a brave woman ...)

19. Pride (the classic TUF hymn ...)

20. Where The Streets ... (followed by the classic from TJT ...)

21. One (... with the AB classic as the finale ...)

22. Unchained Melody (...ended with a nice, nice B-Side cover
version from 1988)
- 1st ENCORE-

23. Zoo Station (flashes back in time, long missed
sounds - ZOO TV ruled again!)

24. The Fly (back in the sets from 1992/93!)

25. With Or Without You (always beautiful, though too much
a mass crowd-pleaser these days)

- 2nd ENCORE-

26. Vertigo/ (a fulminant second rendition, diving
Stories For Boys back into the early roots of "U2 3")

27. Yahweh (coming to an end, Croke Park dreams
with HTDAAB musical landscapes)

28. '40' (and after 2h40+min U2 close their
longest show ever in the best way:
"How long to sing this song...?" -
forever, I hope)

Melbourne 18-11-06. Simply because I was there

1. City of Blinding Lights
2. Vertigo (How energetic was this intro?)
3. Elevation
4. I Will Follow (Edge's guitar sounded profound and sharp)
5. New Year's Day
6. Beautiful Day
7. Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out of
8. Angel of Harlem (Great fun)
9. Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own
10. Love and Peace or Else
11. Sunday Bloody Sunday // Rock the Casbah (Good snippet)
12. Bullet the Blue Sky // Johnny Comes Marching Home // The Hands That Built America
13. Miss Sarajevo (Bono cried)
4. Pride (In the Name of Love)
15. Where the Streets Have No Name

WENT OFF. Like you wouldn't believe.
16. One

17. The Fly
18. Mysterious Ways
19. With or Without You // Never Tear us Apart // Love Will Tear us Apart
20. The Saints Are Coming (Much better live)
21. Desire
22. Kite (Just amazing).

Though the 19th, with The First Time, I Still Haven't Found, Until the End of the World, Party Girl AND Bad (you bastards, I'll never get over that) is the better setlist I was at the 18th.

Oh, and I'm sure there'll be a certain someone who is happy to see a link to that page

 You still cannot chainsaw poetry.

Completely unrelated to this thread, but i'm a little apprehensive about seeing U2 live again - those shows were so amazing i don't know if my next experience will live up to it.

Dublin II and Dublin III
Chicago IV and V

Miami (reviewed many times as a VERY loud show) and this isn't a "because i was there"

City Of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
Elevation
I Will Follow
The Electric Co
Still Havn't Found
Beautiful Day- Blackbird
Original of the Species (full band)
Sometimes You Can't Make It
Love and Peace
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet the Blue Sky
Miss Sarajevo
Pride
Where the Streets Have No Name
One (with Ol' Man River) and the One speech was directed toward hurricane survivors, not Africa, which made it even more powerful for us

Until the End of The World
The Fly
With Or Without You

All Because of You
Walk On (acoustic)
Bad

4th Night in Chicago and the Last Night of the First Leg....

completely agree - last night of the first leg was amazing. i had the good fortune to be 2nd row center stage in the ellipse that night and it was truely one of the most amazing nights of my life. party girl was an extra special treat, as was being sprayed with veuve cliquot by the B-man himself :)

The third Dublin show probably had the best set, and 2005-05-26 and 28, Boston and 2005-09-20, Chicago all had great setlists too. And the two Auckland shows most certainly deserve mentions for One Tree Hill.

If you are just going by setlist and not performance also (which can change things) my picks would be:

May 12, 2005 Chicago
May 28, 2005 Boston
June 25, 2005 Dublin
June 27, 2005 Dublin
September 17, 2005 Toronto
September 21, 2005 Chicago (I think this setlist was better than 9-20, definately a better performance)
March 2, 2006 Buenos Aires

Honorable mentions:

July 16, 2005 Amsterdam
September 16, 2005 Toronto
September 20, 2005 Chicago
October 25, 2005 Detroit
November 19, 2005 Atlanta
December 4, 2005 Boston (Fast Cars closer)
& alot of the Australian Leg.

Perfomance wise my list would change some, but some of these would still make that one as well.

Amsterdam third show 16-07-2005 had a great setlist too. First time Miss Sarajevo, Wild Horses etc

10/25 Detroit

1. City of blinding lights
2. Vertigo
3. Elevation
4. I will follow
5. Gloria
6. The Ocean
7. Beautiful Day
8. I still havent' found...
9. Miracle Drug
10. Sometimes...
11. Love and peace or else
12. Sunday bloody sunday
13. Bullet the blue sky
14. Miss Sarajevo
15. Pride
16. Where the Streets have no name
17. One
18. MLK

19. The First Time
20. Who's gonna ride your wild horses
21. With or without you

23. Crumbs from your table
24. Bad

The best part was the last encore. One of only 7 shows to get Crumbs, and ending the show with a very powerful version of "Bad". All the other Vertigo shows I had seen ended with "40" so this was nice and different.

I didn't know they played Crumbs that many times. Did it ever come together live?
