Get The Unforgettable Fire. It doesn't even matter what else you get, just make sure you get that one.

First, a run down of these albums:
Zooropa This album will take some time for you to digest. If you like their 90s work a lot, you'll probably love it. It's very technological in sound, and experimental to that end. The sound is *fresh*. It's got great rhythm, and melodies that take some time to catch on, but are quite prevalent. 'Stay' is one of their best songs ever. 'Zooropa', the song, is worth the price of the album alone. It's a futuristic, ZooTV album, a companion to Achtung Baby. October This is the album I suggest you get at the very end of your collection hunt. The title track is the best and most beautiful song, but there are some other great songs, too (ie, 'Gloria' and 'I Fall Down' and 'Tomorrow'). This isn't as good as Boy. Boy This is a GREAT album, but I wouldn't suggest it quite yet. This might be the best debut album ever recorded. Every track flows into the next as though recorded in succession. 'Out of Control' is one of their greatest rock songs ever. War This is their first classic album, and a must have. It contains two songs that belong in their top 10 or 15: 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'New Year's Day'. This is almost a romantic punk record. It's perhaps U2's only true full out rock record to date. This, however, is not as good as The Unforgettable Fire. The Unforgettable Fire This is the must have album of these choices. This is where U2 touched upon that unique sound that makes them so recognizable, where Edge and Bono really came into their own. Bono finds his voice, and Edge discovers a new way of using delay effects to create melody. 'Pride' as well as the title track and 'Bad' are the standouts, but there are other brilliant moments as well. This album will take you down wintery reveens and desperate shadows; it will shine a light in your darkest corners. Rattle And Hum One of their most underrated albums ever. 'All I Want Is You' is the standout track, but also includes the #1 hit 'Desire'. There are some live cuts, as well as some gems such as 'Angel of Harlem' and 'Hawkmoon 269'. Also, 'Heartland' is one of their most beautiful songs of all time, up their with 'Stay' and 'The Unforgettable Fire'. This album features Bono at his most powerful vocally. He might have peaked on this album. I hope that description helps you out. If you want my opinion, though, if I were in your position I would choose: 1) The Unforgettable Fire 2) Rattle and Hum The rest are just as vital, but would be better appreciated at a later time. |

Hello,
__________________On my personal favourite list Zooropa is second, just behind AB, as U2's best album ever. I also consider The Unforgettable Fire U2's best album from the 80s, so I would also go with that one. That said, Michael gave a good description above, although I disagree with some of his comments (War is not high on my favourites list, but Boy is as it is a great debut). Then again, if you're planning to get everything in the end, then the order you're buying them now isn't that important. Just make sure you get everything fast. ![]() C ya! Marty |
