In The UK ATYCLB drops 7 places to #23. It seems that its boost from the UK concerts is finishing, however the rest of the older albums continue to sell pretty good and The Joshua Tree being at #43 (drops 7 places), Achtung Baby at #55 (drops 9 places), Rattle & Hum #64 (drops 7 places) and The Best at #74 (drops 18 places).

The #1 album in the UK is Iowa by Slipknot.

In the singles chart Elevation drops 5 places to #53.
The #1 single in the UK is Too Close by Blue.

In the Mucic Videos chart Rattle & Hum drops to #2 after spending several weeks at #1.

This chart is updated every two or three weeks. It states that ATYCLB rises from 15 to 13 on the Global Album Sales Chart. Thought it was 13 three weeks ago, but as the updates are sporadic, perhaps it went from 13-15-13. It has spent the last 4 weeks in the top 30, debuting at #25 after the start of the European Leg. It previously spent 23 weeks on the chart.

Hello,

For those who are interested, here are the chart positions for U2 in the Netherlands. The numbers are courtesy of http://web.planet.nl/music/charts/megatop100/
Week 44 sadly continues the downward trend that started last week. ATYCLB drops another 11 places to #25. On the other hand, it is quite an achievement that the album is still in the top 25 ten months after its release.
The total run so far is:
1-1-1-1-1-3-3-3-6-7
6-5-7-6-6-6-5-6-1-2
8-12-16-25-30-36-38-40-45-48
49-43-39-39-45-42-36-27-15-7
6-6-14-25
(all information prior to week 40 with many thanks to Flying Padre Jr.)

The Best Of 1980-1990 also continues to fall as it drops to #48 in its 93rd week (no this isn't the album with the longest chart run as Buena Vista Social Club is on the charts for 209 weeks).
The positions for the last 6 weeks are:
57-43-9-10
22-31-48
(sorry, don't have data for the other 86 weeks).

Last week there was also a third U2 album on the charts, but this week The Joshua Tree does not make the Top 100. Its third run on the charts was:
78-62-69-91-out of top 100

And I think it's really bye bye bye for NSYNC as they're off the charts for another week.

On the singles front Elevation drops again some places to #17 in its 9th week.
Elevation's run on the charts is now:
11-7-13-17-1-2-3-11-17

C ya!

Marty

The last 4 countries are week 43. The world chart comes from CNN, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. Thanks for the update on the Netherlands popmartian!

ATYCLB is #1!!

In Ireland, ATYCLB jumps from #5 to #1 in Week 44!

As stated by U2.com:
Perhaps it's no surprise, coming between their two biggest shows of the year, but an unprecedented twelve U2 albums make this weeks's Top 100 in Ireland.

All That You Can't Leave Behind is at No. 1; The Joshua Tree is at No. 5; the Best Of (1980-90) is at No 10; Achtung Baby is at No. 11; Rattle and Hum at No.17; The Unforgettable Fire at No.33; Zooropa at No. 35; Pop at No. 37; War at No. 40; Under A Blood Red Sky at No. 43; Boy at No. 45 and October at No.60.

In Australia, the situation is very different. ATYCLB drops from #43 to #47 in its 44th week and is now in danger of dropping from the Australian Top 50 for the first time since its debut. If U2 would only tour there, I'm sure the album would sky-rocket back up the charts...

In the U.S., ATYCLB fell from the Top 100 in its 41st week. Typically, I would stop monitoring the charts at this time. However, with the new single and return of the tour, I believe that ATYCLB may return to the Top 100. Also, the success the album is having in Europe right now has kept up my interest.

Just as STING provided Week 43 U.S. chart news, Melissa provided Week 44 U.S. SoundScan data, so I can now state exact U.S. sales for both weeks. Thanks STING and Melissa for the updates!

As previously reported, in Week 43, ATYCLB dropped slightly, from #106 to #108. In Week 44, the album rose to #104. However, sales dropped ever so slightly despite the rise on the charts.

In Week 41, ATYCLB sold exactly 13,798 copies; 14,491 copies were sold in Week 42; 13,302 copies were sold in Week 43; and 13,273 copies were sold in Week 44. As you can see, the album is holding VERY steady in the U.S. There is a mere 29 copy difference between Weeks 43 and 44!

The first 44 weeks for ATYCLB on the U.S. Billboard charts are:

3-5-12-22-23-24-20-18-22-16
19-19-25-33-37-35-11-15-25-31
38-40-42-45-45-48-50-48-50-58
60-53-50-66-74-82-81-89-88-99
105-106-108-104

"POP" was out of the Top 100 after 19 weeks and out of the Top 200 after 28 weeks. "Zooropa" was out of the Top 100 after 31 weeks.

Approximate weekly sales for the first 44 weeks of ATYCLB are (rounded to nearest thousand):

428,000 + 176,000 + 119,000 + 125,000 + 100,000 + 113,000 + 154,000 + 259,000 + 108,000 + 66,000 + 59,000 + 57,000+ 47,000 + 44,000 + 41,000 + 49,000 + 85,000 + 74,000 + 54,000 + 48,000 + 43,000 + 39,000 + 37,000 + 39,000 + 30,000 + 29,000 + 26,000 + 29,000 + 25,000 + 24,000 + 27,000 + 30,000 + 31,000 + 24,000 + 22,000 + 18,000 + 19,000 + 17,000 + 17,000 + 15,000 + 14,000 + 14,000 + 13,000 + 13,000

Estimated total U.S. sales after 44 weeks are: 2,801,000.

ATYCLB officially crossed the 2.8 million copies sold barrier this week! It is now less that 200,000 copies away from 3x Platinum status in the U.S.

The #1 album this week is Aaliyah's eponymous album, which sky-rockets in sales due to the singer's untimely and tragic death. The album jumps from #19 to #1, selling 305,911 copies this week (compared to 62,081 copies sold last week). Sad that some artists' greatest success is posthumous.

N'Sync's album drops from the Billboard Top 10 in its 6th week on the charts. "Celebrity" charts at #12 this week (down from #5), selling 98,352 copies (a drop of 40,000 units). While N'Sync's "Celebrity" may have enjoyed that monstrous first week, with 1.88 million units sold, by Week 6, it is already selling less than 100,000 copies a week and has disappeared from the Dutch and U.K. charts. In contrast, U2's ATYCLB sold over 100,000 copies for its first 9 weeks (proving that it continued to attract buyers after the initial hype) and remains on the U.K. and Dutch charts after 44 weeks. Once again, once has to question: is N'Sync really the World's Biggest Band?

No major surprises this week on the charts. Aaron Carter's albums are both gleefully plummeting from the charts (his second album is #31 after only 4 weeks and his first album is now #105 after 49 weeks). Proving that one can rebound up the charts after falling from the Top 100, Madonna's "Music" jumps up from #122 to #80, increasing sales by 6,200 copies. U2's appearance on the VMA's or the success of "Stuck..." or the return of the tour may spark sales and return ATYCLB back to the Top 100 (especially seeing as how it is just out of the Top 100 now).

The SoundScan data did not report Catalog sales, so I don't know if the "Best Of" jumped up again on the Catalog charts or not. However, I estimated 11,000 copies sold last week when it charted at #6 on the Catalog charts (the highest its ever been on that or any chart). It'll be interesting to see if it improves again this week.

That's it for the U.S. charts for now (until the Billboard data comes out on Thursday).

Great NEWS Dr. Who! That is just amazing what has happened on the Irish album chart! All 12 albums in the top 60! 1 out of every 5 albums in the top 60 is a U2 album! Talk about domination! I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before in any country. U2 definitely are appealing to the younger generation in Ireland to get sales over the whole catalog like this. I have not seen the Irish charts from 1987, but its hard to imagine them being any bigger in Ireland than they are right now.
Another great week in the USA and finally ATYCLB cracks the 2.8 million mark! I'm sure U2 will see an increase with the MTV awards. How well STUCK... will do is a big question though. There are still 6 months between now and the Grammy's and U2 is sure to be nominated at the awards show, not to mention Christmas season, more singles, 3rd leg tour, other awards shows.
The Mens Magazine GQ has anounced that U2 is their pick for BAND OF THE YEAR! More list like this towards the end of the year will help sales as well.

I know, six months is a long time! Hopefully they can pull it off and keep the album around 100 (or higher depending on multiple factors that have been mentioned). My one major worry, is that with U2's success last year at the grammys and them not really making a whole lot of noise in the second half of 2001 in the U.S., that the grammys may snub them this year. They have never awarded bands/artists heavily two years in a row. So I am not expecting too much.

AND.... we have to remember that for end of the year lists on magazine/tv/newspaper, that ATYCLB came out in 2000, not 2001, so they will most likely be totally out of those lists, unless like GQ, they are named as best band of the year.

It looks like they will have to ride mostly on appearences, tour, and singles to keep it going now.

Womanfish, I've got two words for you: Steely Dan!

In Canada, ATYCLB drops from #47 to #54 in its 44th week, eclipsing the lowest point it reached two weeks ago when it charted at #53.

However, there is some good news in Canada as well. "Elevation" Parts 1 & 2 remain at #4 and #3, respectively, on the CD singles sales chart. That's nearly 2 months that both CD singles have remained in the Top 5 on Canada's CD singles charts.

Since CD single sales are weak, more emphasis should be placed on the radio Hits Chart. And on this chart, U2's "Stuck..." sky-rockets from #71 to #47 in just its second week on the charts. Hopefully, this song will continue to climb (and I imagine U2's appearance on the VMA's won't hurt anything).

My guess is that U2 will not win any video awards for which they are nominated. They will only leave with the Vanguard (?) award. Hopefully this honorary award combined with U2's performance will be enough to spark a bit more interest in ATYCLB and its singles.

German charts:

Elevation moves up from #86 to #82.

Elevation's run on Germany's singles chart: 31-47-43-39-52-60-69-86-82

ATYCLB: Down to #71 from #49

The Best Of 1980-90 drops out of the Top 100.
