U2 Joined By Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, Not Eric Clapton At Telethon

(9/24/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- U2's performance live from London on Friday's
(September 21) telethon, America: A Tribute To Heroes, included a couple of
special guests, although in one case it was not who some viewers thought it
to be. Early reaction to the group's medley of their songs "Peace On Earth"
and "Walk On" in Internet forums and discussion groups suggested that the
second guitarist flanking U2's the Edge was Eric Clapton. However, it turned
out to be the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart.

As well, alt-pop artist Natalie Imbruglia, best known for her 1997 hit,
"Torn," was among the backup singers.

America: A Tribute To Heroes was seen by nearly 90 million television
viewers in the United States, according to early estimates. The telethon is
expected to raise between $100-200 million for relief from the September 11
terrorist attacks.

Don't worry, I think it's funny if they do. We sure know that we give them great laughs at least. Maybe PLEBA is their treatment when they are feeling down and not loved. Isn't that a thrilling thought??

Great.

If they're reading this, then I'd like to tell them I still need some GAs for Hamilton.

Sorry, but this article would suggest to me that the guy who wrote it has been reading the forums, not the band...I'm not saying that it isn't possible that they do read U2 forums occasionally, but this article doesn't suggest that at all...

Jesus!!!! Eric Clapton???

I think I fucking know Clapton when I see him!

Who the hell thought that was Clapton?

That's the way I read it as well.

but just to keep you all paranoid, there was that thing on interference a couple months ago that claimed someone at U2 headquarters was accessing various feeback pages including PLEBA

BTW, I who was that guy next to Natalie Imbruglia?

FOXXERN! That's an "Aingeal" cartoon you have there! I bought a cartoon from Aingeal back in '96. Very sweet girl. I lost contact with her around '97/98. I hope she's well and still drawing U2 cartoons.

OMG! I was wondering what happened to her as well! She kinda disappeared off the face of the Earth, along with all the other 95-early 98 WIRE regulars.

(Except me, of course

DoctorGonzo,

A lot of us old Wire regulars are still around and kicking but most of us are posting under different names and to a myriad of forums, not just Wire.
I don't know where Aingeal is either but I'll bet wherever she is half the people love her and half the people wish she would drop dead. Personally, I miss the excitement.

There is someone named Aingeal who is a lurker. I know this, because, whomever this was, they replied to the one post they made back in November 2000 after someone (myself

) wondered if it was a shameless commercial plug when it was resurrected somehow less than a month ago.

Maybe it's the same person?

*whortense awaits a reply from Aingeal

I wondered who Aingeal was. I actually got that pic from WhereTheSiteHasNoName.com, a site I used to check out back in my early days of U2 fandom. Nowadays I usually just check out Feedback, y0utw0.net, and occasionally u2log.com and @tu2.com. Never got much into Wire, I always liked the community here much better.

Did anyone else notice that the other woman was Morleigh? I thought it was so nice for her to be there and she looked beautiful and caring. For a minute I thought Natalite might be Ali! Still don't know who that other guy was though.
