I was thinking the other day that if there was a tribute album to U2 released, featuring well known singers/bands doing covers of U2 songs. Who would you put on there and what songs would they be doing? I would love to know your thoughts

 I agree with all the artists that have been listed so far...The only one I can think of to add at the moment is Sting. That could be cool.

there was a tribute cd released a couple of years ago; I think it covered tunes up until AB.
can't remember the bands on it though.....wasn't anyone too well known. I heard some of it at barnes and noble, but I thought it sucked so I didn't buy it.:|

I remember the name of it now; it was called "we will follow: a tribute to u2".

:|

:hmm:

My line-up would be

Radiohead
R.E.M.
Pearl Jam
Oasis
Fugees
P.O.D.
Billy Corgan
Beastie Boys
King's X
Sting
Bruce Springsteen
Bob Dylan
Lou Reed
Elvis Costello

:hmm:  real hard

Sting doing Bad
Bruce Springsteen doing WTSHNN
Bob Dylan doing Hawkmoon 269
Lou Reed doing Please (he already did that, huh?)
Elvis Costello doing Stay (Faraway So Close)

I'm going out on a limb here.

No, those are bitchin' song choices! I was thinking Lou could do One. That might be an obvious choice, but it would sound great! Bob doing Hawkmoon might be worth the price of the cd. Think anyone'll see this thread and round up these guys to do the record? In a Pleba aside, I'd like to hear Bruce do Trip Through Your Wires.

Hmm... think think think think

Even Better Than The Real Thing -- Lenny Kravitz
Lemon -- Prince
Beautiful Day -- Bruce Springsteen
One -- Elton John (an all piano and small orchestra arangement)
Stay -- Billy Corgan
Stuck In A Moment -- Dave Grohl (i think he can relate)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For -- Bob Dylan
I Will Follow -- No Doubt
Pride -- Wyclef Jean
The Fly -- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sunday Bloody Sunday -- Neil Young
New Years Day -- Oasis
Bullet The Blue Sky -- Pearl Jam
With Or Without You -- R.E.M.
Where The Streets Have No Name -- David Bowie
Desire -- Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

good selections so far (except for creed  ... though I'm *hoping* that was a joke).

I dunno who I'd pick, but after being utterly dissapointed by the Ethereal Tribute to U2 cd, I have little faith in tribute albums. Which is too bad, especially with the Ethereal Tribute CD, because it could have been sooooo good, and yet was so unrealized in the end.

*hmmph*

definetly pj with bullet the blue sky, i can imagine eddie vedder doing those vocals VERY well...

dropkick murphys--tomorrow
live--the fly
ben folds--october
nine inch nails--mofo

Prince - Lemon(would be immense and very interesting)

Nick Cave - Stay (he could do this extremely well)

Oasis - Staring At The Sun (perfect anthemic ballad for them)

REM -The First Time

Neil Young - Mothers Of The Dissappeared

Audioslave-Bullet The Blue Sky

Queens Of The Stone Age- The Fly (with Mark Lanegan on vocals)

The White Stripes-Sunday Bloody Sunday

Bob Dylan-One

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me

Pretty good line-up if you ask me

Coldplay - New Year's Day
David Bowie - Bad
Chris Issak - With or Without You
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Bullet
New Order - Please
Radiohead - Love is Blindness
Lou Reed - Stay
Gavin Friday - Lemon

If ya happen to pick up Pearl Jam's latest... EV does a little half spoken word / half sung bit on the tune Bushleager... which is a little jab at W., which even as a Republican, I find pretty funny. Anyhoo to the point... listening to that I can only imagine how a Bullet The Blue Sky cover would sound. I hope Ed and company check out this forum and give it a try:lol:

I went to college with Guster. They used to be called Gus. They used to play at my fraternity. They sucked so badly we put a lifetime ban on them ever playing there again...
