How would you feel if they were to do this on their next tour? Pros for the band - No need to have 2 stage/lighting set-ups. No travel expenses. Band and crew can have a 'home base' (no need to be traveling every couple of days)

More pros?

Cons?

I say they should set up shop in Seattle, because when they're not playing concerts, Bono can do his Very Important Work with Bill Gates.

Vegas? It may not be the kiss of death it used to be for ageing artists, but setting up shop in a casino sends a very clear message about the band. It's just not the rock 'n roll thing to do. Period.

Brilliant! I can see U2, see the virtual Venice with their man-made canals, win a fortune in the casinos AND get married by an Elvis impersonator! I'd travel from Australia for that!

What more could you ask for??????

there's no "Vegas acts" anymore, it hasn't been the dropping off point for has beens in years. Every big artist plays the arenas in Vegas. If U2 could be at the Mandalay for 2 weeks, it would be wonderful, its one of the nicest places to ever go to a concert, and for U2 the Four Seasons is right on the top of the Mandalay.

The reason it is a good place for them to stay put, and other big acts, is because for people going to a show there the accommodations, food, everything is excellent. Hope they think about when they're at the MGM in Nov. But I would want them at the Mandalay if possible. Like Celine, they could do 4 shows a week or something.

Motley Crew is going to be on a long term thing at the Alladin it said in LVRJ when I was there.

Oh, yeah, the Crue and Celine are doing it - that's a really ringing endorsement.

I would love to see this.

The demand for tickets to the Vegas shows seems to prove that there are many, MANY fans who want to see them in this particular town, like fans want to see MSG shows. The anything-goes vibe of Vegas makes it an especially appealing place to visit--you can stay up all night, gamble, get sloshed, marry someone you just met a couple of hours before, etc., etc., AND see your favorite band too. Life doesn't get better than that!

Did I mention I'd love to see this???

BAH-ZING!

Seriously, though...staying eight or so weeks in fucking VEGAS means a band has totally sold their souls to the devil. ANY band should TOUR, travel the land, spread the word etc. not turn into some 'established' CABARET act. Can you just imagine it...

Man 1: So, we've checked out all the casinos, bars, what shall we do now?
Man 2: Let's go and see U2!

It'll be like saying:

Man 1: So, we've checked out all the pubs, been to that London Eye...seen Big Ben...what now?
Man 2: Let's go and see CATS!

yes, Cats closed a while ago, but still...rock music isn't for sticking in one place and basically being OWNED by VEGAS! :(

This is the worst idea I've ever heard. Hey maybe U2 can rerelease their albums as duets with topical guest stars. Or they could do a reality TV show where they try to find a fifth member. Or The Edge can write a tell all book. They could each have high-profiled breakups and marriages. Maybe a sex tape scandal? Wow I'm sold now. I mean if hot respectable acts like Motley Crue and Celind Dion are there.

Anybody consider that if they played 8 weeks in Vegas, by week three they might really be sucking the big one?

What affect would it have (especially on Bono) to go out into the same venue over and over, often staring at the same people, including a bunch of touristy types who've already seen them four or five times? And do you remember the world's most expensive juke box that Larry so didn't like? This might just be his worse nightmare.

By the end of the eight weeks, I have a suspition Bono would be struggling to pull a decent show out of his hat...
