Just listening to the David Homes remix of Beautiful Day....sounds like just the basic parts of the song, just the main guitar minus effects, bass and drums...i really like....

But anyway U2 seem to spend an awful lot of time on their remixes....for example the Dirty Day Junk Day remix has a different vocal from Bono and i guess Edge beefed up the guitar parts....then Mofo the Phunk Phorce remix has a differnt vocal as well...the guys give any reason for why they put so much work into their remixes....? Not that i am complaining i enjoy hearing different workings of their songs...

Some of their "mixes" are brand spanking new recordings, like Please and Walk On.

Alot of them incorporate recorded parts that didn't make the final album mix, see Bono's "WAKE UP" vocal in remixes of Dirty Day.

Sometimes they change 1 small thing, like adding the tremelo effect to Edge's guitar on the "Lemonade" mix of Lemon.

Anyway, I don't think there is a reason, other than the songs may need it.
