My brother, who lives in Vancouver and covers hockey games, sent me this note today:

"Somebody in the Canucks game presentation clearly loves U2, maybe even more than you. The team skates out to "Where The Streets Have No Name." Video highlights from last season on the big screen are set to "Beautiful Day" and "I Will Follow." And the new ad campaign for tickets plays a big chunk of "Elevation"--the slogan actually is "A Season for Elevation." I wonder if they're paying royalties to U2?"

In past seasons, he's told me that the team has skated out to Streets before, and also Discotheque the year after that came out.

He actually came with me to see U2 in Vancouver this year, and enjoyed it (though not nearly as much as I did) but he claimed that seeing the Canucks skate out to Streets was "even better" than seeing U2 play it live.

Same building for concerts and hockey games, GM Place.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned
