Let's see who can get this one.

Who authored the line "And hope and history rhyme?"

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned

-W.B. Yeats

Um, you aren't thinking of Seamus Heaney, are you? I don't think he wrote the line, just used it as title of a poem.

I'm not sure my first post made it complete: it's from Seamus Heaney's "The Cure at Troy" - a translation of Sophocles' Philoctetes

By the way, U2 thanks Heaney in the liner notes

Ah, so there were some rightish sort of answers already. When I ask questions like this I always find out stuff I don't know.

Duh! But I still got a right answer first!

I actually just had to find a specific article that I remember seeing it in on ******.net

Perhaps it was Sophocles? He sounds vaguely related to the saying.

It says "Lyrics: Bono" in the liner notes. Gosh, that was easy!

I didn't think I needed to mention that this was a trick question.

In Peace on Earth, it says "but hope and history won't rhyme." My question was: who wrote the line "and hope and history rhyme"?

Not Sophocles (unless the person I know wrote the line quoted Sophocles) and not whoever you suggested, Skeek.
