Top 10 Covers of U2 songs

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

congrats on the mention!

I would have to put Dream Theater's cover of "Red Hill Mining Town" in there, especially since U2 never performed it live, the vocals could have been better in certain sections (sounds too much like some 80s hair band singer), but I like the heavy guitars

Ari Hest has an excellent acoustic cover of "Running to Stand Still," and of course the Elvis Costello version of "Please" which inspired U2 to begin playing it that way on the Elevation Tour

It's an article written by angela pancella - she lists her top 10 U2 covers with a description/review of the song.

And guess what? We made the list! Kind of cool!

Awesome! Congratulations!

Man, after reading this list, I may have to go find some of these covers and listen to them...the descriptions of the songs made them sound so interesting.

That MadelynIris cover is fantastic. Someone on Zootopia pointed it out back in May. I instantly thought it was one of the best covers of U2 song I've ever heard.

I prefer artists who really make the songs their own rather than try to duplicate the U2 sound. That's why I can't believe Cassandra Wilson's "Love is Blindness" always gets left off of these lists when they come up.

BTW, I've yet to track down an mp3 of Joan Baez' "MLK." Is that anygood?

For what's it worth, here are my top ten U2 covers in no particular order:

Who's Gonna Ride You Wild Horses - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
One - Johnny Cash
With Or Without You - Strung Out On U2 (some string quartet)
Where The Streets Have No Name - U2 blugrass Tribute (again I don't know the name of the exact artist)
One - Bon Jovi in Dublin concert
Stay - Smashing Pumpkins
Where The Streets Have No Name - Pet Shop Boys
Where The Streets Have No Name - not sure who but some Australian, it was done live and acousitc ---got the mp3 somewhere
Running To Stand Still - The Brown Derbies -- melodic, harmonic and just acapella --nice mixing of voices
Drowning Man - some female singer I don't know who ..really slow version ..one would never suspect it was a U2 cover upon hearing it.

Cheers,

Hmmm...my sister'd be interested to know Bon Jovi covered "One", since she loves Bon Jovi.

The Smashing Pumpkins did "Stay"? Ooh, I'll have to hear their version of that song.
