This is the kick-ass album that followed Pop in my alternate universe...

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I have tried to include most of my favorite songs from this era and also spent a lot of time on the flow!

1. Beautiful Day
Hands down the best opener in the new era, thematically and musically.

2. Levitate
Replaces Elevation as the upbeat track with better lyrics! Okay, if the 'freedom has a scent' line really bothers you that much, just assume that it was changed for this album.

3. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
The album slows down a bit as the opening beat floats in. This gorgeous number echoes AB's One at #3.

4. Walk On
For some reason that I can't explain, I get the feeling that this song fits best at #4, right before the sing-along classic track 5!

5. City Of Blinding Lights
Perfect rousing track 5 on the lines of Stay and Who's Gonna Ride.

6. Stuck In A Moment (acoustic)
Mellow end to Side A with the (superior) acoustic version.

7. Love And Peace Or Else
Side B begins with a bang, of course!

8. Miracle Drug
This is the first time you hear the 'freedom has a scent' line since it's been removed from Levitate. ;) This song segues very well into Crumbs IMO.

9. Crumbs From Your Table
A gem of a song that feels almost like the natural corollary to MD.

10. New York
This is another song that fits perfectly well at #10 IMO. Sounds to me like it was made to be the last upbeat hurrah before the mellow closer..... but in this case, don't forget the grand finale. :mac:

11. Stateless
The mellow closer or should I say.. false ending?

12. Mercy
Honestly, Is there a better way to end this album???

Baby, I'm born again.. and again and again.. and again and again and again...

Bring on the bouquets and brickbats! :shifty:

Wow, you included my four favourites. I'm amazed.

I don't like Stuck --> LAPOE though. I know you're talking in terms of vinyl album sides, but really, who listens to vinyl rather than CDs any more?

*waits for five people to tell me they and their children and their children's friend's milkman and their children's friend's milkman's uncle's postman's nephew's dog all listen to vinyl rather than CD*

I honestly listen to either vinyl or off a media device (iPod or Computer).

I don't own HTDAAB on CD, but do on Vinyl. Seriously.
Infact I'm quite sure I don't own any U2 CD's .

Which are your 4 favorites? just curious... apart from COBL of course, as we all know.

you're kidding.... of course.

Achtung & Zooropa I think, maybe.

But definatly not HTDAAB or ATYCLB, I have them in all their vinyl goodness (as much as is there for those two albums  ).

I do quite like the tracklisting at the top too, just to keep it on topic. :)

The four would be Crumbs From Your Table, The Ground Beneath Her Feet, Walk On, and Merc- oh wait, City Of Blinding Lights!

Veeery close behind would be When I Look At The World, One Step Closer, and Love And Peace Or Else.

The major issue I have with Kite is the ending! Starting from 'should I waste it...', the song goes down the freaking drain! waste/taste, fragrant/basement.. :tsk: I'm not that thrilled about the.. I'm a maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I'm not a child..part either! Otherwise it's a good song with some cool guitar.

But I'm sure you own every Crowded House album in vinyl, CD, cassette, laserdisc, DVD-A, SACD, MP3, M4A, SHN, FLAC, APE, Ogg Vorbis, and echoing for all eternity inside a specially made jar.

LAPOE mofoing rocks...u2 crunched out this song and it is mightily underrated by all except that band

here would be my take, track flow is hurried, but IMO, the top 12

1. City of Blinding Lights (better mix)
2. Beautiful Day
3. All Because Of You (alt)
4. Smile
5. Walk On
6. Kite
7. Stateless
8. Crumbs From Your Table
9. Original of The Species
10. Xanax and Wine
11. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
12. Mercy

Ah.. ABOY (alt) is another great one! Much much better than the album version!

As for Smile, I only listened to it a couple of times and couldn't get into it at all. Found it too boring or something. :slant:

:combust:

You forgot Minidisc though.

Well at one point this year where the last three albums I bought were all the same (different versions).

Of course I didn't mention minidisc, Timo. You need to keep something to collect in your old age.

And alright, just because I've nothing better to do ...

1. Love And Peace Or Else
2. Crumbs From Your Table
3. When I Look At The World
4. One Step Closer
5. City Of Blinding Lights
6. The Ground Beneath Her Feet
7. Kite
8. Walk On
9. Flower Child
10. Smile
11. Mercy
12. Grace

I really, really like the idea of Mercy followed by Grace.

Axver did you mean to overlook Beautiful Day?

Mine:

1. Vertigo
2. Elevation

and:

- are you gonna wait forvertigo?
- in a little vertigo
- stuck in a vertigo you can't get out of
- a man and a vertigo
- love and peace or vertigo

i shouldn't try to be funny this late. or ever, really.

Well to choose from the finished songs they had in 2000:

1. BD
2. Levitate (perfect follow up plus it is IMO the best transition between Pop-ATYCLB sound)
3. Walk on
4. Stuck
5. Kite
6. In a little while
7. Wild honey
8. Flower child (a perfect companion for Wild honey, and along with Levitate, would bring ATYCLB closer to the "pop album" they were going for)
9. New York
10. Stateless (I know Ground beneath her feet was intended for the movie, but this one could have been saved for the album)
11. Falling at your feet (was this ATYCLB material or written for MDH soundtrack?)

All I Want Is Vertigo
Vertigo Of Harlem
11 O'Clock Vertigo
A Day Without Vertigo
Another Time, Another Vertigo
With A Shout (Vertigo)
I Threw A Vertigo Through A Window...

continue to infinity.

On second thought, I'd trade Ground beneath her feet for Walk on.
