I'm never alone (I'm alone all the time)
inspired by AtomicBono's actions re:Miami, i have decided to do something i've been meaning to do for awhile. start a playboy mansion appreciation thread.

the guitar is cool, especially the beginning. and ive never understood the bashing of the lyrics. i think theyre funny and brilliant. "its who you know that gets you through...the gates of the playboy mansion" perfect. also, i dont care if they sound sort of rough, i believe these are some of bono's best vocals period.

so, who agrees with me?

anyone?

i know youre out there...

sorry...it's not even a song..it's just a waste of time and space

:eyebrow:

I love it! That modest slide guitar and the amazing groove are the highlights and also some of the lyrics esp. in the 2nd half of the song. The only thing I don't like about this song is the opening lines. But otherwise.......

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame

Heaven for the MTV generation, long before we had reality tv to rub it in.

Great song. Certainly NOT the throwaway some people say it is.

Pop's best song, and one of my all-time U2 favourites. I don't see what all of the distate is about.....it's basically an I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For for the 90's.

In fact, that is the problem with much of the Pop album. More time was spent of grooves than on hooks and solid melodies.

I extended my love for this song on the last PBM appretiation thread so I won't say much. What I will say is that I LOVE this song. It's one of my favorite songs from Pop. The melodies and the lyrics are perfection. Edge's vocal harmonies are some of his best and I think they are my favorite. The bass and drums are brilliant, they are a big part of the mood of the song. I love the slide and the full sound of the guitar on the background. Just a great, great song!

Oh man, this song is really really great. Probably my favorite song from Pop. Definitely one of my favorite U2 songs.

The Slide guitar is awesome. The lyrics are awesome as well. I kinda think of it as Zooropa's little brother. They're both great social commentary regarding commercialism and materialism. Grreeeaaat.

One of my favorite moments of any song is when he sings:

Then will there e no time for sorrow?
Then will there be no time for shame?
and though I can't say why, I know I've got to believe.

What a great song. I actually made a Playboy Mansion appreciation thread myself once :)

I have always loved this song. It is very underrated.

To anyone who doesn't like this song...lighten up.

:dancing: Hooray! Other people love Playboy Mansion! I thought I was the only one for the longest time.

It's not my favourite song on Pop, but only two (sometimes three or four) other songs in the whole of the U2 career beat Please, so Playboy Mansion's right up there!

I like this song, its not really among my favourites but its still a good song. Especially the lyrics - just brilliant !!! And Ive never understood why so many people hate it....

The Playboy Mansion is a great song with cool lyrics and has a bit of a T.Rex feeling in it.

Great song. To me it's the real throbbing heart of Pop, even more so than "MOFO" or "If God Will..." or "Wake Up Dead Man." It brings to mind for me an image of MacPhisto at the gates of heaven, sort of.

I appreciate the music, but lyrics are terrible.

Michael Jackson...History (did Smash Mouth or Cake write this song?)

Anyone else like how Bono sings

"Don't know if I can hold on
Don't know if I'm that strong
Don't know if I can wait that long
Til the colors come flashing and the lights go on

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
And though I can't say why
I know I've got to believe"

That's the part I really love about the song, the rest of the song makes me cringe :( sort of like how I can't stand the "there's an insect in your ear..."

Only the first couple of verses suck, because of all the stupid pop culture references. After that, it's all gold. Even during the first verses, the dreary melody and slick guitar (good sampled hook too) hold it together. Great song overall.

I don't have all that love for this song, but I like it. I think it becomes awesome after "I never bought a lotto ticket". It's not reason for hates. Cool lyrics, cool melody

The point of the song is to make pop culture and materialism look foolish. :der:

now there's a bad lyric. If you want to talk about overrated songs with bad lyrics...SATS.

TPM=underrated good song with brilliant lyrics.

I know that's the point, but sometimes, the point sucks and strict adherence to it creates further suckage.

Love the song. Aside from the outro, this is my favorite line.

"If OJ is more than a drink, and a Big Mac bigger than you think."
