Ah... Ya'll know that the "see China right in front of you" line is actually taking a shot at that country for their human rights, right? In the middle eight Bono's alternating positives and negatives in the lyrics.

See the world in green and blue - good
See China right in front of you - bad
See the canyons broken by cloud - good
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out - bad
See the Bedouin fires at night - good
See the oil fields at first light - bad

I mean, they're really nice pictures, and if you're going for an ironic subtext you've nailed it...

Hmm, that's an interesting interpertation.

However :

See the world in green and blue - can be a bad thing too.
There's a lot of colors you're not seeing.
Of course saying black and white doesn't rhyme with you.

China could represent the color red.
Green, blue, red are the colors in the old televisions and together you'd see all the colors in the world on tv.

Canyons broken by cloud - can be bad. As clouds can block your view.

And why is oil fields at first light bad?

It's an enviromental song. The world is a beautiful place, don't ruin it.

See the world in green and blue - good; typical colors of a pristine planet
See China right in front of you - bad; take your pick: over population, unregulated industrialization, human rights abuses
See the canyons broken by cloud - good - an image of untouched nature
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out - bad; this one's pretty obvious I would think
See the Bedouin fires at night - good; a nomadic people living as one with the land; romanticized for sure, but still.
See the oil fields at first light - bad; as you watch the nomadic gardeners at night, the day dawns and instead you see the black steel and broken ground of the oil fields with the smoke and fire and sounds etc.
