This isn't just a selection of one's favourite 18 tracks from the period, but if it was up to you to compile the most comprehensive best of for the period of 1990 to 2000, what would it include:

Criteria:

- 18 songs

- the promotional single release (ala sweetest thing from 80-90), has to be a reworked version of one of u2's b-sides from the period.

- 11 singles

- 6 non-singles

- 1 reworked b-side

- ATYCLB can be included, as can the passengers project.

The intent is not simply to compile a list of favourite songs, but in a commercial sense, what would have been the ideal best of 90-2000 compilation u2 could have released.

What would have summed the decade up?

What compilation of tracks would be able to attract part-time u2 fans into possibly exapnding their desire to buy each of u2's studio albums?

My list goes for Double LP only. These tracks would not go very well in this order on CD as some tracks seem to me to make Album/Side openers. So they'd be arranged differentley on a CD Issue....

Your Blue Room

Side B-

Mofo

Side D-

Acrobat
If you wear that Velvet Dress
Dirty Day
Love is Blindness

You mean the current Best Of 1990-2000 is not ideal? I guess you don't trust U2 to give you the best they can give. Perhaps when they release their new album, it won't be ideal as there could have been more preferred tracks left off the album right?

Cheers,

J

nah i dont trust u2.......i felt the compilation offered an inadequate reflection of the decade......

....i can never be satisfied, and nor can anyone else be completely satisfied when it comes to a best of.....

U2 can never satisfy you so why bother listening? I guess its the musical journey you are after, not the destination. You take great joy in the pursuit of the ever-elusive perfection. It is a great thing to have blind faith in U2 and perceive them as perfect, but it is an even greater thing to put doubt and unsatisfaction in the forefront, so that you will be one with U2 in that ever elusive search for satisfaction. You lack of trust and satisfaction for U2 is sometimes reminiscent of Bono seeming lack of belief in God, when in fact it is just a ranting similar to the Psalms when King David shouts out "why have your forsaken my my God?" Now, you are screaming, "U2 I don't trust you, I am never satisfied by you" --- yet you still run to their music and find some comfort in it. That is the essence of a U2 fan.

Cheers,

J

Does it have to be commercially satisfying? I always like these threads to let me sort out my productional 'fantasies'. (ie. the sort of U2 product I'd love. With the sort of format I'd adore to have in my collection etc...)..and guess I got carried away with mine...but I'm not changing, partly because I cannot change it anyway...so there..
