Terry Lawless is headed to Dublin soon, as per his Facebook page. Make of it what you will.

The person behind U2songs is reporting on another forum that there may still be a radio single, albeit released the same time as a surprise album launch.

What's cool is that, in addition to Streets, Moment of Surrender has also apparently been sent out to DJs for remixes.

I think this lends credence to the idea that what we've heard in the audiobook isn't reflective of what we'll hear on SoS (no way the audiobook versions of Streets or MoS would be radio singles).

Also, if they're considering it as a single, I imagine they've put a lot of effort into the new version of MoS, which really interests me. It's possibly my favourite U2 track of the 00s, and I love the idea of them having another go at it. Bono also said recently that it should've been the lead single from NLOTH, so maybe they'll try to 'redeem' it with SoS.

Nice! Wonder if we're still on par for this year or not.

The guy from u2songs has said on u2start it won’t be out this year. (u2wanderer1 is his username on u2start for anyone looking).

I’m still hopeful we get a single next month with preorders for the album coming out in January.

Yeah, they're pretty firm it will be next year unfortunately.

... The good news is, there's not that long until next year anymore . Hopefully we're looking at Jan/Feb more than April/may...

I don’t know if an announcement this year has been ruled out though for pre order and then shipping next year. That would need to be clarified with u2songs if it’s just the release as opposed to announcement that’s definitely next year.

It's possible I suppose! I feel at this point it's a case of whether the announcement/single for SoS is preferred off the back of Bono's book tour and the Kennedy Honours event, or alongside the Vegas Sphere announcement next year.

I think there’s a clue on u2songs Twitter about a possible reason for the delay. They’ve mentioned paris tonight being the 2nd to last ‘announced show’. I’m guessing more stories of surrender dates are on the way and the album not out until it’s done with.

U2songs Facebook post about tonight’s Paris show also says “Just one more show before the end of the currently announced shows”

And then if you click on the link for the review they state that further tour dates have been discussed for the new year but obviously nothing has been announced yet.

Perhaps the next round of tour dates can be centered around the band touring Songs of Surrender in small theaters?

U2 in small theaters would be an impossible and very expensive ticket to get.
Can't see any way that happens.

Quick aside, I e-mailed Terry a little over a year ago to ask if he had any insight on specific synths used on MOFO (before his time with the band, but I thought he might have the scoop). I wasn't expecting a reply, but got one! He politely declined to give up any info, as he is under strict confidentiality, but it was still very cool to hear from him.

Yea he's surprisingly accessible and quite friendly towards fans.

2029 it is!

Tho it’s not like the band made any official release statement. It’s all been the rumor mill

I still don’t think we see this album. Isn’t 2023 supposed to be a new U2 album and potential tour ? Can’t see them risking lower sale numbers on new material competing with an album of old songs

They released a JT 30 set the same year as SOE. This would be pretty similar. When you do the maths on sales numbers of new releases it’s a very insignificant part of the u2 business model anyway. Touring is where the money’s at. The latest rumours point more towards the next tour being in 2024 with vegas being the only shows in 2023 so not really a tour, more book tour shows look like being on the way though. Songs of surrender likely out very early 2023 and the new album at the end of 2023, Bono seemed to suggest he wants new material out before vegas but maybe just a few singles if AB is going to be the main focus of they shows. I wouldn’t even rule out the brand new material not being out until very early 2024, basically as long as it’s on time for a 2024 tour.

U2songs have also put in a comment on Twitter ‘announced’ in the new year for Songs of surrender clarifying some of our earlier thoughts/questions.

So his comments to Billy Sloan on BBC Radio Scotland suggests the band have shelved and 'put aside' the material they've been working on the last few years in favour of 'uncompromising' guitar music, made for 'ourselves and our audience' and that it doesn't matter if it doesn't get played on radio.
