ever bet on the horses?
just curious.

I don't bet on horses, or even in casinos. The only bets I make are on the golf course and I bet on myself of course.

Cheers,

Jick, I didn't tell you that your theory was an exploration in stupidity...why would you do that to me? So I'd appreciate if you'd retain that biting wit of yours and not bash my thoughts so bluntly. Our "theories" are just that...theories.

U2 has never been part of the typical musical industry scheme...with thier music and their personal lives. Thiers careers have been anything but ordinary, so I don't think the 'rules' nessacarily apply to a group of individuals that have taken the road less travelled by.

Sorry if I rubbed you off the wrong way. I never meant to bash anyone's thoughts. That is why I posted my thoughts so people can share their own thoughts regarding my statistical calculations and forecasts.

It's cool you describe their career as "anything but ordinary" - that is the title of one of my favorite songs off Avril Lavigne's Let Go album.

Cheers,

J

I'm guessing it will resemble Pop more so than ATYCLB in the charts. massive hype equals staggering first week sales, but ATYCLB had lingering success because people who were anti-Pop were curious if U2 had actually gone back to the U2 that they liked.

Now: I think those people will either buy this one right away because they liked what they heard on the last one, or not buy it at all because they were disappointed with atyclb.

Actually, I'm pretty sure HTDAAB will resemble a compromise between Pop and atyclb in the charts. It will have a big first week, bigger than Pop because of the holiday season and other reasons, but will not linger quite like atyclb did.

I agree that HTDAAB will be bigger in the first week but I disagree it will not have the same lingering effect as ATYCLB. I think it's total rubbish to say because people were disappointed with the last album they won't buy the new one.

You stated that people who were anti-pop would be curious about ATYCLB, well how about those anti-atyclb, maybe they are looking forward to a heavier, more hard-edged and rockier album. How about all the AB fans who are probably anticipating this album more than any other U2 album in the last 10 years.

I think that with the introduction of bands like The Killers, The Hives, The Strokes and proliferation of punk-rock bands like Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Lost Prophets etc etc, U2 may appeal to those into any of these type of bands. They will also have ballads on the new album to appeal to Coldplay, Travis and Keane fans, who like slower songs.

In other words, this album will be an amalgamation of all these bands in U2's own unique style, obviously vastly superior to the output of all these bands put together! It's clever because they are making an album to appeal to those who are still buying records and I think this album may sell more than you give it credit for.
