Elevation

High, higher than the sun
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here
At the corner of your lips
As the orbit of your hips
Eclipse

You elevate my soul
I've lost all self-control
Been living like a mole
Now, going down, excavation
I and I into the sky
You make me feel like I can fly so high
Elevation

A star lit up like a cigar
Strung out like a guitar
Maybe you can educate my mind
Explain all these controls
Can't sing but I've got soul
The goal is elevation

A mole living in a hole
Digging up my soul
Going down, excavation
I and I into the sky
You make me feel like I can fly so high
Elevation

Love, lift me out of these blues
Won't you tell me something true
I believe in you

A mole living in a hole
Digging up my soul
Going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly so high

How did an article (was it in Q magazine when they talked about the 1010 songs you must own) say it again so strikingly? It was something like: a song with rather mundane lyrics, but a beast live.
Anyway, I'll have to look up the exact quote, but I hope you catch my drift. Maybe not the most profound U2 song lyrically, but who can withstand the 'Woo-hoo'?

*likes the studio version too*

It's a meaningless, kick-ass little ditty that becomes a MONSTER when performed live & I LOVE IT.

There - I said it! I hereby proclaim my unashamed Elevation Adoration!!   :D

Ah, I found the quote I was writing about earlier. It was in the April 2005 issue of Q magazine (with their Ultimate Music Collection feature, although I don't know why they had it 6 months after their previous must-own-music feature  )

Nursery rhyme lyric but mother of all stadium-rock choruses.

How true!

I'm always surprised by how hated the lyrics are. I love the rhythm of the words, and Rock and Rolls all about rhythm.
So it doesn't set out to save the world, who cares? Not one of my fave U2 songs but far from being my least.

I agree the lyrics are meant to be stupid and fun...and just rockin:rockon:
