Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World

Six o'clock in the morning
ou're the last to hear the warning
You've been tryin' to throw your arms around the world
You've been falling off the sidewalk
Your lips move but you can't talk
Tryin' to throw your arms around the world

I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Be still
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman I will

Sunrise like a nosebleed
Your head hurts and you can't breathe
You been tryin' to throw your arms around the world
How far are you gonna go
Before you lose your way back home
You've been tryin' to throw your arms around the world

I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman be still
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman I will

I dreamed that I saw Dali
With a supermarket trolley
He was tryin' to throw his arms around a girl
He took an open-top beetle
Through the eye of a needle
He was tryin' to throw his arms around the world

I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman be still
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman I will

Nothin' much to say I guess
Just the same as all the rest
Been tryin' to throw my arms around the world
A woman needs a man
Like a fish needs a bicycle
When you're tryin' to throw your arms around the world
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
I'm gonna run to you, run to you, run to you
Woman be still, woman be still, be still
Woman be still
Woman I will

It's a great lil tune, but in the library of U2 songs, this one ranks near the bottom of my list; in the same vein as Stuck in a Moment....both with long titles, rich in melody, but lacking certain passion and fire I come to expect with U2.

But that's just me.

I like the little bass line. And some of the lyrics really make me laugh. Dali in a supermarket trolley, etc.

i've always liked this song. i don't understand why people don't seem to like it that much...i think it has a nice melody and i love the line "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle".

this song rocks! i used to think it was really long and boring, but one day i was listening to the ZooTV Sydney radio broadcast, and it hit that song, and i decided to listen. the intro bit is really cool, and the short bridge in the middle is great!

THATS IT???!!!!!  :eyebrow: :madspit:

btw, how did you get that reason, did bono say it in an interview?

And cuz the champagne was involved, so it's not that outrageous they'd want it out

I'm glad I got to see it on the Pay-Per-View. Is there video of this floating around, or is it considered something akin to child porn?

The live version of this is so great with Edge's additional lead guitar chiming, but the album track has its own mellow coolness. I don't understand how that bassline alone doesn't sell this song to everyone.

that's really weird, I was had just started Tryin to Throw from Munich when I saw this thread. fate.

Anyway, this song has really, really grown on me. the live version is so amazing, that bridge is awesome. Also love Edge's guitarwork on the live ones in particular, so nice. The studio version has it's own appeal though. I like it, even if it's not as good as the amazing live ones. There was a thread not too long ago in the video/audio forum, and Queen Bee (I think) posted tons of awesome versions of it live, I'd be willing to post a few if anyone wants.

Apart from it sounding like Angel of Harlem in a different key to me.... it's a pretty cool song. It's not the best song on Achtung, but rather unfortunately there's about a 7 way tie for best song on Achtung.

Beats the heck out of So Cruel, anyway.

I have the Milan and Sydney perfomances and I really like them. As I said, this song is too much overlooked just because doesn't have deep lyrics...

Great song, not the worst on Achtung at all.

yesterday, i was listening to the ZooTV Sydney Radio 1 Broadacst. . . Numb had just ended, and i knew that Tryin' to Throw was next, so i just started singing that beginning intro loop, and, magically, i was exactly on time and on key with the CD! it was really really cool!
