Mothers of the disappeared

Midnight, our sons and daughters
Were cut down and taken from us
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

In the wind we hear their laughter
In the rain we see their tears
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

Night hangs like a prisoner
Stretched over black and blue
Hear their heartbeat
We hear their heartbeat

In the trees our sons stand naked
Through the walls our daughters cry
See their tears in the rainfall

good freaking song.

live ripped it off. back when they were calling themselves "public affection". i forget what the song was called...it was on that thing that's now long out of print that they released themselves before putting out mental jewelry.

Gorgeous; and with a good political message too. Live in Santiago in 1998; "I ask you, Mr Pinochet; I ask you, tell these mothers; where are their children?" Very touching. (Okay, that was during "One"; but the Mothers of the Disappeared were on the stage.)

(Santiago 98 was an amazing concert btw.)

This song doesn't grab me. Not the studio version, nor the live versions from the Joshua Tree Tour.
That said, the live version from Santiago de Chile is amazing, tine-splingling.

perfect closer to the Joshua Tree. I loved the music and edge's guitar work. Not one of my favorites off JT, but that's just a credit to how strong the record is.

Very under-rated song.
