Song of the day 08/21: Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car

------------------------------------------------
You're a precious stone
You're out on your own
You know everyone in the world
But you feel alone
Daddy won't let you weep
Daddy won't let you ache
Daddy gives you as much as you can take
A-ha sha-la, a-ha sha-la
Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car

A little uptight
You're a baby's fist
Butterfly kisses up and down your wrist
When you see daddy coming
You're licking your lip
Nails bitten down to the quick
A-ha sha-la, a-ha sha-la
Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car
Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car

You've got a head full of traffic
You're a siren's song
You cry for mama
And daddy's right along
He gives you the keys to a flamin' car
Daddy's with you wherever you are
Daddy's a comfort
Daddy's your best friend
Daddy'll hold your hand right up to the end
A-ha sha-la, a-ha sha-la
Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car
Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday's alright...
[Repeat and fade until end]

My opinion: It is my favorite song off Zooropa and I like to play it on repeat a lot.

I like groovy dance-ish songs like this from my favorite bands. I often find that hardcore fans who are more in love with the partiular genre of their favotire band as opposed to the music seem to hate songs like these.

It's one of my top five non-single faves from U2.

agreed. I liked the experimentation on this track which is why it is my favorite. It is a good song to listen to while driving as well.

U2's really pushing themselves creatively on this track. The song essentially rests on one chord the whole time, and is given structure through the beat and the backwards bass thing. Similar to the Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows...

'tis a great song.

Probably their most realised tune from the Zooropa record. It really sounds nothing like them. Groovey tune. I love the reverb that fades on and off on Boners voice. An obvious nod to Bowie's "Always Crashing in the Same Car" from his Low record. Eno recored both tunes.

I never thought about the Bowie nod but can see where that is possible.

very cool track!!! i never thought it would translate so well to live performances but from the looks of sydney video that was pretty damn good. i especially love the way the song picks up in the third verse "You've got a head full of traffic..." with edge's guitar goin off like a siren, bono lets loose with macphisto, you can hear larry really well and adams bass really grooves on this song.

Holy crap...this is the song I was listening to yesterday when I crashed my dad's car (I posted a thread in ZC). As if that wasn't a strange enough coincidence...this was what you picked to be the song of the day also. Wow.

i dont know Bonochick- sounds a little suspect to me...now if daddy gets his wallet out then theres definitely something strange goin on  all jokes aside, i hope that you're ok.

perfect example of life imitating art imitating life.

great tune. I love the way it starts with that music and then the beat kicks in. The end is great too when Edge is singing the days of the week..
