Slane Reports, Post here!!!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Thin Lizzy's Dancing in the Moonlight and the Dancing in the Moonlight covered by Toploader are two completely different songs.

Now does anyone know which one they played?

Hope to God it is the first one!

WOW guys that was awesome! Thank for all the reports and updates posted by you all! All I have to say is I wish I was there!!! AMZING!!!!!

No, The Wanderer is right! Van Morrison did NOT cover "Dancing in the Moonlight," his song was "Moondance," on the album of the same name. He didn't even play it live in the 70s. "Dancing In The Moonlight" is a Thin Lizzy tune. I challenge any one to locate a reference to Van the Man covering "Dancing in the Moonlight."

I think you might be right. When I went to download the song on a file sharing program, I found references for a Van Morrison version. Of course, just because there's a reference on a file sharing program hardly means the information is correct. However, what it does mean is that I think many other people feel this is a Van Morrison tune as well - even if we are all incorrect! LOL!

When I looked at an official Van Morrison website, I could find no reference for him doing this song. Therefore, I guess they did the Thin Lizzy version, which of course makes perfect sense (Slane 1981 connection). It should be noted though that the King Harvest version of this song is NOT the same as the Thin Lizzy version.

So sorry for the confusion.

Hey bonoman, where did you your info from?
I've been looking all over the net for any Slane news with no luck.
I'm keeping Elevated by listening to live U2 mp3s.

Original quote by a "Doctor"-'Somebodyoranother'--

....."by Van Morrison - a fellow Irishman, of course."

It just so happens that Phil Lynott-bka-- "Philco" back in the day was also a "fellow Irishman". He's father was a black longshoreman and his mother Irish if I remember correctly.
I was lucky enough to see Phil perform live back in 1978 as Thin Lizzy opened for Kiss. I sat in the 7th row at the Los Angeles Fourm a Jr. in high school at the time.I was amazed at the chrisma of this performer, standing on large speakers passionately playing his guitar for the crowd.....

But who am I, only diamondbruno of Bos #4...

See, the mixing tent in the middle there...
Frogbat, Bono's pet frog, Fritzy, Fritzy's hubby, j swallow and her bro and I were about 8 rows in front of that during U2 and about 5 rows from the front of the main section of the crowd during the other performances.

Why did we move back for U2?
We were in the mosh and at one point Fritz, j swallow and I got kinda well, squashed and I was pulled under when about 30 people fell over. I was on the ground underneath them all so it was a bit scary.
And that was during Coldplay!!!

also about dancing in the moonlight...

Bono introduced the song by tlaking about Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. It had absolutely nothing to do with Van Morrison and it was superb!!!

p.s. when i said the mixing tent in the middle i meant that little white patch in front of the stage. Im looking at that pic now and cant belive i was in the middle of them all.
Lazy, you're lucky you're not around for me to thump you, going back again next week
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Maybe you should climb the railing into the VIPs, Im sure Ronan would love to talk to ya

It was awesome. I put more over in lazy's thread - but it was just incredible.

Sorry 'bout your flag too manda! What'd it look like? If I see one I'll pick it up for ya!

Nice to meet all you crazy folks, manda and fritzy, the two frogs, lazy, AM and whiteflag, zoom... Hope you all enjoyed the show as much as I did!

Peace to you.
