hey when is this entire "Rest of U2 Survivor" Tournament scheduled to end?

I kind of hope it lasts through until the album comes out so as to act like a bridge for my mental health.....It will make 8 or 9 months seem like less...i hope....i hope....i hope............................................................................dammit why can't they just release it now :sigh:

i'm sick of this!

corri- I'm trying I swear!

Rob, add up all the songs that weren't on Best Of proper releases and then multiply it all by 2 (days per poll) and you'll get your number. Then add in finals rounds. My guess is 3 months.

Keep in mind we have ... I think it's four non-album categories, but the mercy rule does keep things down a little.

alright thanks

Wow i'm listening to smile right now, pretty damn good song....is it going to find it's way into this tournament or no?

do we have a defined mercy rule? or does corri just use judgement

So more like 4 months?

If a song has a pretty big lead in the number of votes it's gotten after only one day, and there's nothing really close to it in number of votes, that's when I start whipping out the mercy killings.

But it's not an exact science. There was one last round I ended after 3 hours because it was pretty ridiculous. I think that'll be out of the norm, though.

Good god, i know fuck all of those.

Terrible fan.

Assuming no mercy rulings:

66 days for Passengers (yes, we're including it), Pop, ATYCLB, and HTDAAB
100 days for non-album tracks
34 days for the finals series

Thus we've got a whopping 200 days to go after Zooropa's done. Wow, I didn't expect that much. The mercy rule will surely make things quicker though.

Could I interest you in.... an assortment? :sexywink:

Oh, and I'm okay with a double elimination. That will make this will take the Survivor marathon down to about 199 days

holy crap...that's a long time...well so we'll be really close to album release by the time this ends! cool!

When I think of U2 albums though, Passengers just doesn't come to mind...ok well we've all been there before, I just don't think it belongs in this tournament, but whatever...we'll see how it goes :)

I figured that since this is all in good fun and Passengers is a bit overlooked, it would simply be interesting to include it. I don't really care for debates about whether or not it should be there. We all know I think it very much is a U2 album and outright dismiss any argument to the contrary, but that wasn't my motivation for including it - rather, I thought its inclusion would add something to the game.

Ahh. I wasn't including Passengers. Didn't realize non-album would take quite so long though.

Shouldn't Desert of Our Love, Rise Up, and Drunk Chicken/America go back in the JT era? I understand relocating Beautiful Ghost and Wave of Sorrow because they were worked on more recently, but the other 3 hadn't been touched since JT as I understood it.

They were originally in the JT section. I moved them for two reasons:

1. Release date, not recording date. Note I did the same thing with She's A Mystery To Me.
2. To try to bring some balance between the size of the categories. The late eighties section at one point threatened to have something in the order of 20 songs.

(Also, I don't buy that Beautiful Ghost was worked on more recently.)

Fair enough.

I can't believe this is gonna last this long - nearlyl a year! I will probably miss a lot of it this summer and maybe the fall too :(

And can we kick both songs off? Obviously whichever doesn't go this time will be the next to go anyway.

never understood why not...it seems this tournament's steadfast rules could really be loosened up a bit...c'mon...what would be so bad about knocking wanderer and some day's out simultaneously? is it really necessary to go through all this? I don't really mind, but like Varitek, I'm just curious :)

Corri? Someone?
