The twentieth reason
Bono and how he persists in making me smile during the day. I will be studying or in a bank cue or driving along and I will think of Bono saying something like “far out that’s the loudest voice I have ever heard, how do u scream up twenty stories *looks at camera* rock doggy” or a particular lyric will flash into my head like “she got soul soul soul sweat soul and she teach me how so sing” and I will just impulsively smile a massive smile and sometimes chuckle quietly to myself. Then I think I have to stop doing that. Bono is just the coolest.

The way the song One just drives daggers into you. How it can pull at every emotion within the time frame of the song. How the song, without changing in words or music, changes with the times. It's as meaningful and fresh today as it was in 1991.

The songs, the songs, the songs. There's a song for my every mood, for every single feeling.

That even after all these years, WOWY still enthralls me.

It still amazes me that the four most adorable men in the world are in the same band.

And as Wertsie mentioned, I also think their friendship is the most beautiful thing about them.

I love them.

For the band giving us not only incredible music from 1991-2001, but also 3 of the most fantastic live shows that a fan could ever imagine, and ask for in the ZooTV Tour, Popmart Tour, and the Elevation Tour. Even if their career would have only lasted those ten years, I would love this band just the same for the visually stunning memories they created on stage.

#27- The fact that if it weren't for them I wouldn't have made so many new friends over the last year and a half, friends I consider family.

#28 -10/15/01 Thank you again, for making that night one of the happiest of my young life.

Great thread, Chris, we need some U2 love!!!

Because they have always been there for me, since I was a young college girl...whether I feel like crying when life is tough and bitter or dancing and having fun when things are better...when I feel as if I were drowning in sorrows there is always a U2 song to cheer me up...when I feel I could fly away from everything, good or bad, there is always a U2 song to make me fly. It´s much more than music. It´s like water when I´m thirsty...and I feel it will always be that way for me. So I love U2.

On a personal level, their music (especially ATYCLB) was/is uplifting.

It's magic, really. Their music and the lyrics seem to touch a part of me no other band can.

As a girl, i really like the way they portray us in the videos/songs. With style and class, unlike so many. many bands.

Haha, exactly. .

#32: The creativity in their videos-who else could have come up with the concept for "The Sweetest Thing" and made it as sweet (no pun intended) as that video was? Who else can make a video as odd...yet very artistic and cool...as the video for "Lemon"? And who else could make a video as mind-blowing as "Even Better Than The Real Thing"?

#33: The fact that Bono and his wife have been together since high school-you don't hear many stories of celebrity relationships that last that long nowadays, and to see their relationship still going strong is just an inspiration, and a really lovely thing to see. I really admire that about those two.

#34 - The fact that they have refused to settle for mediocrity but have always strived for excellence.

#35 - The fact that they been able to express their faith through their music without sounding preachy or trite.

I wanted to say so much more but everyone else already beat me to it! Great job, everyone!

#36 When they dreamt it all up again..........

After rushing home from the Virgin Megastore in Dublin......just after midnight - November 1991. Popping the CD carefully in to the stereo.........I could feel the musical weight in my hands. Everything would change when I pressed PLAY...........and it did. Achtung Baby started my love affair with U2.......all those new crazy sounds that made my Pioneer System (tm) sound like it was ripping itself apart......all that passion........all that pain.........all that beauty...........and then.....ONE....the most passionately painful and beautiful song ever written (IMHO)........How they managed all of this.............and became COOL in the process..........All this in a little round piece of plastic......that changed everything.

Eh....sorry for rambling.........This is one defining reason why I love U2

For 40. I know I'm 3 posts too early, but it's still true.

A moment I will remember forever, and had dreamed about for years, since I first heard Under a Blood Red Sky. My first U2 concert (Elevation Albany). All the other songs were nice, but when Bono got to the end of Bad, and started singing "how long...." I almost cried.

I had been singing every word of every song up until that point, but singing those words with 20,000 other people was something I'll never forget.

First U2 concert...perhaps one of the most trying times of my young adult life. After getting out of my town w/ bro and friend, we make the trek to see the concert...which turned out to be a pivotal point in my thinking process. I cheered, I cried (more like sobbed), I laughed and smiled...all for one rock band. Their performance that day helped me through so much, and for that I'm eternally grateful. Amen to U2's ability to reach so many, with words and songs.

Popmart. Whether we liked it or not, it was very historical and will always be known as one of the wildest stunts pulled by a rock and roll band (another contribution by U2 to their being on the edge and shattering expectations).
